In the past I had used ArcView, and later Manifold. Both allowed me to easily create my own areas, lines and points with easily accessible tools with the ability to import sophisticated maps. I had to give up both these products for different reasons.
I am looking for a reasonably priced sophisticated replacement that is not simplistic but does not make the creation of my own areas, lines and points a chore/obscure The current GIS software that I have look into seem to emphasize the analytical aspect of GIS rather than the cartographic, or are too basic for me.

If you can suggest such a product I would be most appreciative.
