Lizardtech Ships New MrSID Geospatial Edition 1.4
Newest Product Offers Expanded File Format Support and
Password Protection for Images
SEATTLE, August 16, 2000 - LizardTech, Inc., the Seattle-based leader in
imaging technologies, today announced the release of its MrSID® Geospatial
Edition 1.4. This latest offering in LizardTech's geospatial product line
allows GIS professionals to encode and mosaic imagery into the
industry-standard MrSID format. Major enhancements in the MrSID Geospatial
Edition 1.4 include expanded file support for the ERDAS IMAGINE (.img) file
format, Space Imaging's IKONOS, 16-bit GeoTIFF file format and 11-bit,
high-resolution satellite data. New features also include datum-specific
cropping of USGS Digital Ortho Quadrangle (DOQ) images, password protection
for MrSID images and many easy-to-use additions to the user interface. MrSID
Geospatial Edition 1.4 is available directly from LizardTech or its
authorized resellers.
LizardTech is the only image solutions provider that has direct support from
every major GIS software company. From ESRI to Smallworld, Intergraph to
Autodesk, LizardTech continues to enhance its products for its extensive GIS
user base.
MrSID is a wavelet-based imaging technology that allows up to a 95 percent
file size reduction while maintaining geometric accuracy and providing for
real-time viewing, panning and printing of massive-sized imagery, including
files larger than a gigabyte. Coupled with the MrSID Image Server, which is
available at no cost from LizardTech's Web site, the MrSID Geospatial
Edition provides a total image solution for customers that want to share
images locally or via the Internet.
"As an authorized LizardTech reseller, we had received customer feedback
requesting support for 16-bit GeoTIFF, 11-bit high-resolution satellite
imagery and other additional file formats," said Mike McGuire, owner, Ascent
GIS. "LizardTech immediately responded, and we know our customers are going
to be excited to use this latest MrSID Geospatial Edition."
"Since MrSID is the standard image format for Geospatial imagery, our goal
is to support the widest variety of geospatial file formats to meet our
customers demands," said John Grizz Deal, LizardTech's president and CEO.
"If we can provide that all within an easy-to-use interface, we're confident
that MrSID will continue to lead the way in making Geospatial imaging
available for everyone."
Geospatial users can choose between desktop or workstation versions of the
MrSID Geospatial Edition. The desktop encoder is designed for users who
want to encode a single image or set of multiple images up to a maximum file
size of 500 MB. The workstation version gives users the ability to encode
images of virtually any size, even hundreds of gigabytes. Software
Developers Kits (SDK's) are also available from LizardTech's Web site at
www.lizardtech.com.
