DMTI Spatial Announces Bold New Canadian Government Mapping Initiative

MARKHAM, ON December 13, 2000 - DMTI Spatial is pleased to announce a bold new initiative titled 'The Canadian Government Mapping Solution'. This program provides the Government of Canada, and all its departments and agencies, with access to DMTI Spatial's CanMap® street-map and routing logistics database for use within Canadian Government geographic information systems (GIS) at significantly reduced cost.

GIS technology helps increase service to Canadian citizens and improves operational efficiencies in such areas as: emergency preparedness, elections preparation and enactment, census planning and execution, route logistics planning, and resources management. Critical Government roles in public safety and disaster management, public health, environmental assessment, demographics, socio economics, land ownership, plus many other areas, are better understood and managed using a GIS and accurate street-map data.

Recognizing that the Government is committed to improving its online information services to all Canadians, DMTI Spatial is taking a leadership role with its 'Canadian Government Mapping Solution.' This program offers all Government departments a cost-effective means of using a continually updated national street-map database.

"We're proud to be known as an energetic, high-technology company that specializes in innovation," said John Fisher, President and CEO, DMTI Spatial. "And this innovative approach assures Canadians that the Government will realize significant cost reductions in developing a national street network data file. In addition, our program will significantly reduce the Government's ongoing costs related to maintaining and updating its national street-map database."

CanMap, the company's flagship product, is a suite of precision-built street-map and routing logistics data files. The CanMap product is widely used by leading Canadian and US corporations in the transportation, telecommunications, utilities, and Internet industries. CanMap is also deployed in many federal and provincial Government departments, such as Public Works and Services Canada, Health Canada, Industry Canada, Transport Canada, and Department of National Defence. And, as more and more Government departments use GIS to provide services and measure performance, access to accurate, up-to-date street-map data becomes mission critical.

By embracing this DMTI Spatial initiative, the federal Government will be able to provide Canadians with a very cost-effective approach to managing and delivering GIS services. DMTI Spatial's program also provides a GIS training component to assist with systems deployment and the development of online applications. Additionally, the plan supports the establishment of an interdepartmental committee to act as a forum for information exchange, and for DMTI Spatial to address new product developments and announcements.

"Canadians are the real winners here," said John Fisher. "The Canadian Government is continuously striving to improve services to its citizens and reduce costs. Our initiative will assist the Government in rapidly achieving these goals."
