ProjectBank DGN Now Available
Web-based Addition To MicroStation/J 7.1 Enables Concurrent Design, Management of
Change and Project Tracking
Exton, PA - January 27, 2000 - Bentley Systems, Incorporated today announced the
release of ProjectBank DGN. ProjectBank DGN's innovations apply parallelism and
management of change to design workflows, removing long-standing production
roadblocks and increasing the value of engineering project data.
ProjectBank DGN introduces to MicroStation/J 7.1 key innovations like change-merging,
project tracking, dependency tracking and multi-format data storage and exchange.
ProjectBank is a major advance over document management systems because it manages
transactions at the level of components, not files, and across the entire project database.
Rob Brawn, Design Automation Technology Leader, CH2M-Hill says, "ProjectBank is a
breakthrough, and the ability to take documents offline and integrate them back into our
existing workflow has a huge impact on our productivity."
In addition to ProjectBank DGN, MicroStation/J 7.1 offers other project-oriented
enhancements. It includes basic support for tagging elements with XML data.
MicroStation/J also includes a JavaTM-based spell checker, an updated Parasolid®
modeling kernel, plotting enhancements, import/export enhancements, Oracle 8.0x
support, and more.
The MicroStation/J 7.1 update is automatically available to all Bentley SELECTSM
subscribers at no additional cost. Both ProjectBank DGN and MicroStation/J 7.1 are
available for download by SELECT subscribers at the SELECT Online Stream Web site.
Martyn Day, Group Editor, CADD, CADdesk, cadservices, says, "ProjectBank, when
combined with MicroStation/J 7.1, challenges the economics of deploying traditional,
file-based, CAD systems, by integrating multi-discipline design teams into a single
development process. In a world where productivity equals success, you cannot ignore the
potential benefits of utilizing Bentley's ProjectBank technology."
ProjectBank DGN is designed to handle DGN files in MicroStation workgroups
connected locally or over the Internet. A subsequent schema will be added to allow
ProjectBank technology to provide all the revolutionary features of ProjectBank to
manage native AutoCAD 2000 DWG files, a format developed by Autodesk
[NASDAQ:ADSK] also at the engineering component level.
The new version of ProjectBank technology will be released as a part of Bentley's
ProjectWise, a rapidly deployable, next-generation information-management product for
engineering projects. ProjectWise operates on a user's LAN, WAN, or extranet to
provide a secure, controlled, centralized environment for managing all formats of
engineering data, meeting the needs of the engineering workgroup as well as the entire
project team. AutoCAD will still be used to edit DWG files managed with ProjectWise.
