SolidWorks Software Enhances Engineering Curriculum At National University of Singapore; 300 Seats of 3D CAD Software Give Students Competitive Advantage
CONCORD, Mass., Jan. 31, 2000 - SolidWorks Corporation, a leading provider
of affordable, easy-to-use 3D CAD software for the mainstream design-centric market, today announced that
the Center for Information Technology and Applications at the Faculty of Engineering (ENG CITA), National
University of Singapore (NUS), has installed 300 seats of SolidWorks for use in its engineering program. The
300 seats are being added to enhance students' knowledge of design engineering and to give them a
competitive advantage in today's job market. In addition to the 300 seats of SolidWorks, the Center also
purchased several SolidWorks' partner products including 50 seats of COSMOS/Works from Structural
Research and Analysis Corporation, and 300 seats of Dynamic Designer/Motion from Mechanical Dynamics
Inc.
In the NUS engineering program, all first-year-engineering students will learn the graphics capabilities of
SolidWorks. Students studying Mechanical and Production Engineering will also learn about SolidWorks'
engineering drawing features. Students in their second, third, and fourth years will use SolidWorks in their
design projects, including final year projects, which incorporate everything they have learned in their
engineering classes.
"We chose SolidWorks because it has an extremely short learning curve. SolidWorks is an ideal program
for engineering students to learn basic design concepts, but yet is advanced and robust enough to also meet the
needs of advanced students," said Associate Professor Ang Kok Keng, the Director of ENG CITA, NUS.
"We also chose SolidWorks for its powerful 3D design capabilities. 3D solid modeling is the future of
engineering, and the NUS needs to provide its students with the best tools to succeed after graduation. Many
companies want to hire engineers with knowledge of 3D CAD software. After receiving SolidWorks training,
our students graduate with a strong, competitive advantage."
"We are pleased to introduce a new engineering design approach to the students at The National University
of Singapore," said Rosanne Kramer, manager of education marketing for SolidWorks. "We applaud the
efforts of the University and its faculty to provide leading, mainstream engineering design software throughout
the Faculty of Engineering. SolidWorks' presence in the international education market is increasing daily, and
we are pleased to be working with such a progressive institution as The National University of Singapore."
The NUS is working with SolidWorks' reseller, SeaCAD Technologies in Singapore for implementation,
training, and ongoing technical service and support.
