Raising the bar with a new version of CARIS HIPS
February 1, 2000, CARIS-Universal Systems Ltd., New Brunswick, Canada announces the release of CARIS HIPS Spatial Editor, which will introduce HIPS users to a new interface and new technology for processing multibeam sonar data.

Some of the enhancements introduced to the survey processing industry include:
  • Interface with geographic vector and raster backgrounds.
  • Integration of multibeam swath display with geographic display
  • Weighted gridding technology adapting multibeam characteristics.
  • New modern Windows interface and functionality.

CARIS HIPS was one of the initial applications offered within the product line of marine and hydrographic software solutions. Recognizing this, CARIS-Universal Systems Ltd. accelerated the development plan in for HIPS in 1999 to meet the growing demands for more efficient and more intuitive systems for processing high volume bathymetric data.

During the design stage for the new applications for HIPS, CARIS-Universal Systems Ltd. considered not only the immediate requirements of its customers but also the predictions for the future of hydrographic data processing and data management. A critical part of the solution is the use of CARIS Spatial Components development tools, which are used to provide the foundation for spatial data access from a variety of data sources.

“With the emergence new technologies and techniques in digital ocean mapping and charting its is not entirely clear today how the survey processing needs of the hydrographic industries will evolve” explains Mike Gourley, Product Manager, HIPS and SIPS. “The innovative technology embedded into this release of HIPS is such that it will adapt to future functionality requirements as the industry changes. This will allow CARIS-Universal Systems Ltd. to evolve this product in the future and secure its market position as a leading system for the processing and management of hydrographic data.”
