SFR and Webraska announce the launch of the world's first detailed urban traffic maps on WAP mobile phones
Cannes, France, 2nd February 2000 - Webraska Mobile Technologies, the world's first provider of real-time traffic information, maps and navigation on WAP mobile phones, and SFR, the first mobile operator to introduce pre-WAP services in Europe, today announce the launch of the first real-time detailed traffic maps on key locations within Paris, France, and the surrounding area. This service, a world-wide first, is being demonstrated on Alcatel's stand at the GSM World Congress held in Cannes, France (2-4 February 2000).

Users will be able to see 26 maps of Paris’ most congested locations including the Champs Elysées, the La Défense business area, and the fast routes along the Seine (see exemples below). The phone's screen will show streets and intersections shaded black, grey and white to indicate whether a street is blocked, heavily congested or free of traffic. Street names and symbols, such as railway stations and tourist landmarks, will enhance the user-friendliness of the service.

On February 15, the service will be available free of charge to subscribers of e.medi@, the mobile internet offering launched by SFR in March 1999. Users will then access the "SFR Traffic" menu on their mobile phone and be offered a choice of areas in and around Paris.

"The main advantage of mobile internet is that it provides services that are useful wherever you are. Webraska's partnership with SFR continues to produce innovative solutions that improve the lives of mobile telephony users in an area where location and timing are especially important: traffic congestion", commented Jean-Michel Durocher, CEO and founder of Webraska.

Antoine Iris, e-medi@ Managing Director added: "Thanks to its in-depth knowledge of WAP technology and its close collaboration with innovative partners such as Webraska, SFR is able to develop internet-based mobile services that all its customers find both easy and helpful to use. The faster throughput and instant access provided by GPRS will later enable us to go even further in the development and conception of multimedia applications, as soon as the handsets become available".

About Webraska

Webraska is the world's first provider of value-added real-time traffic information, maps, and navigation services on mobile internet phones, turning phones into co-pilots. Webraska's goal is to provide a flexible and complete alternative to CD-rom-based car navigation systems, using its patented Internet-based Distributed Navigation. Its customers are telecom operators wishing to reduce churn rates, earn new revenues and build a strong brand by addressing their users' basic mobility needs such as "Where am I?", "How do I get to my destination by car, public transport or on foot?", "Can you guide me safely to my destination?". Originally developed in partnership with leading French mobile telephony operator SFR, Webraska's services are built on carrier-grade quality digital map servers designed to support millions of subscribers. Services include WAP access, Java-based call-centre interfaces, XML queries for IVR systems, SMS connectivity, internet personalisation, support and visualisation. Webraska's services are available to subscribers of SFR in France and KPN in the Netherlands. Webraska has also established partnerships with Trafficmaster in the UK, Tele Atlas, Alcatel, Phone.com and In-Fusio.
