Mechanical Dynamics and Unigraphics Solutions Extend Partnership With Motion Simulation Capabilities Embedded In Upcoming Solid Edge Software Release
ANN ARBOR, Mich., Feb. 10 - Mechanical Dynamics, Inc. (Nasdaq: MDII), the world's leading provider of functional virtual prototyping solutions, is broadening the market for its products as part of its partnership with Unigraphics Solutions Inc. (NYSE: UGS) of St. Louis, Mo., a key developer of computer-aided design (CAD) software.

Dynamic motion simulation capabilities from Mechanical Dynamics' Design Technologies Division will be embedded in Solid Edge(TM) Version 8, the next release of Unigraphics' popular Windows-based CAD package. Built into Solid Edge 8 will be the Simply Motion module from Mechanical Dynamics' Dynamic Designer line of CAD-embedded products. The software allows users to animate their Solid Edge assemblies and check for part interferences without leaving their familiar Solid Edge software environment.

"Integrating Simply Motion within Solid Edge 8," said Alan Wegienka, director of Mechanical Dynamics' Design Technologies Division, "expands the OEM relationship we have built with Unigraphics and extends our customer base. By introducing Solid Edge users to the powerful benefits of motion simulation through this embedded module, we can leverage sales of our full Dynamic Designer/Motion for Solid Edge product."

The October 1999 launch of Dynamic Designer/Motion for Solid Edge elevated Mechanical Dynamics to premier-level status in the Solid Edge Voyager Program. "This program," said William McClure, director of the Solid Edge line of business at Unigraphics Solutions, "matches the core design and drafting capabilities of Solid Edge with leading third-party products to provide best- in-class mechanical design automation solutions. The inclusion of Simply Motion in Solid Edge 8 dramatically improves users' ability to make good design decisions based on realistic simulation."

Michael E. Korybalski, chairman and chief executive officer of Mechanical Dynamics, said, "We're very pleased to be working with Unigraphics. This partnership validates the need for motion simulation embedded in CAD software. We anticipate that this relationship will expand our presence in the design market, generating new customers and additional revenue growth and solidifying our position as the leader for motion simulation solutions."

Simply Motion uses Mechanical Dynamics' IntelliMotion(TM) technology to help users quickly and easily add motion-specific intelligence to their Solid Edge assemblies. As a user creates an assembly, Simply Motion anticipates motion simulation needs and automatically updates the motion data.

Simply Motion, like all products in the Dynamic Designer line, is built upon Mechanical Dynamics' ADAMS(R) dynamic solution engine. ADAMS is recognized as the world's most widely used mechanical system simulation tool, relied on by engineering teams from nearly every manufacturing industry.

Mechanical Dynamics pioneered the field of mechanical system simulation, and has remained focused on this technology since its founding in 1977. Engineering teams worldwide use the company's software and services to build and test functional virtual prototypes, realistically simulating on their computers the behavior of their complex mechanical systems in operation. This Smarter to Market(TM) approach helps users reduce the need for costly physical prototypes, manage risk in new product development, and get higher-quality products to market faster.
