INDUSTRIAS ROMI S/A Selects SolidWorks Software as Worldwide Engineering Standard
CONCORD, Mass., Jan. 4, 2000 - Largest Manufacturer of Tooling and Plastic Injection Machines in Latin America Standardizes on SolidWorks

SolidWorks Corporation, a leading provider of affordable, easy-to-use 3D CAD software for the mainstream design-centric market, today announced that INDUSTRIAS ROMI(R) S/A, located in Santa Barbara D'Oeste, Sao Paulo, Brazil, has chosen SolidWorks(R) software as the standard for its design engineering desktops. ROMI will be using 104 seats of SolidWorks for designing, manufacturing, and marketing its line of machine tools, plastic injection molding machines, high precision adjustable boring systems, and rough and machined castings. Founded more than 65 years ago, ROMI is the largest manufacturer of machine tools and plastic injection equipment in Latin America with office locations around the world.

More than a year ago, ROMI decided to make the transition from 2D CAD to 3D solid modeling software. After an extensive evaluation of several CAD systems available in the Brazilian marketplace, ROMI chose SolidWorks for its native Windows(R) environment, ease-of-use, large assembly capabilities, short learning curve, and competitive price. ROMI will use SolidWorks from the initial design stages of its products through the development of the final assemblies.

"Our main objective in purchasing SolidWorks was to increase productivity, improve accuracy, and reduce design time," said William dos Reis of ROMI. "We also want to ensure a fast and secure exchange of information within the company and improve product quality through imaging and product documentation. The sophisticated modeling capabilities of SolidWorks allows our engineers to design and build better tooling machines and plastic injection units that are higher in quality, lower in cost, and easier to create."

SolidWorks also donated 15 educational copies of its software to the ROMI Foundation CAD laboratory, a non-profit teaching institution developed for engineering students.

SolidWorks reseller, ASSESSOCON, and SolidWorks Latin America, represented by Jung Systems Informatica Ltda will provide installation, training, and support to ROMI.
