Provincewide site license awarded to MFteach
ThinkSpace Inc. of London, Ontario is pleased to announce that its educational product “MFteach A Practical GIS for High Schools” has been awarded a province wide site license by the Ministry of Education and Training for the province of Ontario. Effective February 1, 2000 MFteach will be distributed to over 800 Ontario high schools. This licensing agreement covers close to 30% of all the high schools in Canada.

MFteach is a complete GIS teaching package ready for immediate implementation. Utilizing the raster based GIS software MFworks it includes teacher aims and objectives, curriculum focussed lesson sets, student worksheets, teacher solution sets, and all the necessary map data. There are also a set of advanced lessons and a MFworks tutorial for those students working at a more advanced GIS level.

MFteach has the ability to import and use a wide range of data including Remote Sensing data and all ArcView data. This expands the use of MFteach, so that teachers can use the existing lesson plans as is or as templates and substitute their own data sets, or create additional lessons in a raster GIS environment.

MFteach operates on both the Macintosh and Windows environments allowing all schools, regardless of platform to make use of GIS. The philosophy behind MFteach is that it this is a teacher’s resource, and is designed to enhance the teaching of subject based curriculum. Also the user- friendly nature and excellent documentation of MFteach allows even beginning GIS teachers to feel comfortable delivering the MFteach lessons to their students.

“Being awarded the province wide license not only establishes our credibility as a developer of relevant GIS educational products, but also gives us the incentive to pursue other MFteach initiatives” states Ron Taylor, Education Consultant for ThinkSpace. “MFteach2 is in the planning stages and will focus on the Remote Sensing aspects of GIS, while MFteach3 will increase raster linkages to vector based data sets.”
