NovAtel Supplies GPS Receivers for Chinese WAAS Program
CALGARY, Alberta, July 6, 2000--NovAtel Inc. (Nasdaq:NGPS) announced today that the Company has received an order for 34 WAAS and mini-WAAS receivers from Shenzhen Shenyuan Trading Company for use in the Chinese Satellite Navigation Augmentation System (SNAS).

NovAtel recently delivered 12 of the receivers to its customer in China with the remaining 22 receivers scheduled for delivery before the end of this year.

"We are extremely pleased to have been awarded the Chinese SNAS contract," said Doug Reid, President and Chief Executive Officer. "The contract reinforces our leadership in Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) programs."

Beijing JHD New Technology Co., NovAtel's dealer in Beijing, is supporting the test and installation of the systems in China. Initially, eleven SNAS reference sites are being installed in and around Beijing, each equipped with three NovAtel WAAS/mini-WAAS receivers.

"NovAtel is very pleased to see continued expansion of WAAS-type networks around the world," said Tony Murfin, Director, Aviation Group at NovAtel. "This major Chinese program has been an excellent opportunity to extend our growing NovAtel commercial business in China."

These NovAtel receivers are functionally identical to those used in the United States WAAS and Japanese MSAS (MTSAT Satellite-based Augmentation System). The Multipath Estimating Delay Lock Loop (MEDLL(R)) function, which minimizes multipath effects in the broadcast reference corrections, has been disabled in the mini-WAAS receivers. MEDLL is scheduled to be activated in these receivers in later phases of the Chinese SNAS project.

NovAtel's WAAS receivers address the enhanced accuracy and integrity verification requirements of national Wide Area Augmentation Systems. These complex receivers incorporate NovAtel's patented Narrow Correlator(R) tracking technology and MEDLL, process WAAS signals from geo-stationary satellites and include L1/L2 processing using MiLLennium(R) dual frequency receivers.

NovAtel designs, markets and supports a broad range of products that determine precise geographic locations using the Global Positioning System ("GPS"). NovAtel's GPS products are used principally for applications in high-end markets such as surveying, geographic information systems, aviation, marine, mining and machine control and agriculture.
