PCI Geomatics Reaches Agreement With Delphi2 Creative Technologies
Richmond Hill, Ontario - July 25, 2000: PCI Geomatics and Delphi2 Creative Technologies (soon to be called
Definiens) are pleased to announce the formation of their new global strategic alliance. This alliance will see PCI
Geomatics' GeoGateway(r) technology integrated with the Delphi2's eCognition technology. PCI Geomatics will
distribute eCognition software on a global basis.
Both PCI Geomatics and Delphi2 (Definiens) are celebrating this new agreement and hope it will contribute to the
growth of the geomatics technology industry through the unilateral sharing of product information as well as dynamic
sales and marketing channels.
"This agreement represents a wonderful new geomatics working alliance. The positive working benefits of our
relationship will become positive product benefits for our customers."
Dr Robert Moses, President and CEO, PCI Geomatics.
Delphi2 Creative Technologies provides software solutions for intelligent information management in digital analysis of
remote sensing imagery and medical image data for knowledge management and a variety of simulation tasks.
Delphi2 Creative Technologies was founded in 1994 by Dr. Gerd Binnig (Nobel Prize Laureate in Physics 1986) and
internationally recognized scientific journalist Dieter Herold. The basic technology behind Delphi's products is to
model human thinking through a new software technology. Starting from relatively unstructured data files, objects and
their relations evolve into a complex network that represents meaning driven not by rules but rather by classification.
"With eCognition Delphi2 is introducing a revolutionary technology which will dramatically change and improve
remote sensing- and image analysis."
Thomas Grevel, CEO, Delphi2.
The core of eCognition - based on the patented "Dalamatian Technology" - is analyzing image information via image
objects. In a first step, the software extracts image objects that are subsequently classified by means of fuzzy logic.
The basic strategy is to build up a hierarchical network of image objects, which allows the representation of the image
information content at different resolutions (scales) simultaneously. By operating on the relations between networked
objects, it is possible to classify local context information. Beyond the pure spectral information this "context
information" (which often is essential) can be used together with form and texture features of image objects to
improve classification.
PCI Geomatics is a leader in the development of innovative software for the remote sensing, digital photogrammetry,
and data visualization markets. PCI Geomatics designs software that provides the broadest range of functionality, and
operates on the most extensive list of computer platforms in the industry. Its software is primarily used by
professionals and scientists for resource analysis and mapping applications in operations responsible for monitoring
the earth and its resources. Product areas of application include agriculture, infrastructure, forestry, meteorology,
mining and minerals, oceanography, oil and gas, transportation, and urban areas, as well as defense and intelligence
usability.
PCI Geomatics is currently developing the next generation of geomatics software. GEOMATICA(tm), a product to
be released later this year, is a complete geomatics solution providing affordable geospatial software that is
feature-rich and easy to use. Essential elements from PCI Geomatics' world renown products have been assembled
into a highly integrated package and infused with new technologies needed to meet the growing challenges in remote
sensing, spatial analysis, GIS, photogrammetry, and cartography.
PCI Geomatics has grown from the union of four high-tech geospatial software companies: PCI Enterprises, TYDAC
Research, PCI Pacific Geosolutions, and PCI Carto. PCI Geomatics has over 11,000 licenses installed in over 100
countries, a result of its commitment to supply leading edge software, customer support, and service worldwide. PCI
Geomatics has been in the geospatial software business since 1982 and each software generation has been created
with their customer's present and future needs in mind.
GEOMATICA is a trademark and GeoGateway is a registered trademark of PCI Geomatics
