In Time For Storm Season 2000; Motorola Updates Hurricane Tracker Software for Pagewriter 2000X and Timeport P930 and P935 Personal Interactive Communicators
BOYNTON BEACH, Fla., July 24, 2000-- Software Application Provides Wireless Storm Monitoring Displays Hurricane Positions On Graphic Screen

Motorola (NASDAQ: MOT), one of the leaders in the wireless communications industry, is announcing the availability of a new, updated version of its Hurricane Tracker software developed for the company's PageWriter(R) 2000X and Timeport(TM) P930 and P935 personal interactive communicators (PICs).

Hurricane Tracker software helps alert users to approaching hurricanes, tropical storms and tropical depressions -- through Motorola's PIC devices(a).

The graphic display screens of these two-way devices help provide users with storm coordinates and forecast tracking on a map of the eastern Atlantic Ocean and nearby land. The software enables property and business owners who need to track where and when a storm is expected to strike to do so from their own wireless devices.

"Motorola developed Hurricane Tracker software in 1998 after Hurricane Georges devastated South Florida," explained Roger Theriault, Business Development Manager, Personal Networks Group, Motorola. "With another major hurricane season expected this year, we are offering mobile wireless users a solution that could help them make decisions about evacuation. We want to help provide more available, more up-to-date and more easily accessible information to prepare them for the unpredictable forces of nature. This season, the solution is more widely available to consumers on a number of nationwide networks."

Registration for the Hurricane Tracker application is free and available for download on the Motorola web site at www.motorola.com/weather.

With Hurricane Tracker software, personal interactive communicator users simply send a query via the Internet to Motorola's database. Then, data containing the hurricane's current position, forecast path, wind speed, etc., is sent directly to the user's device. Advisory updates and forecasts four times per day can be received as they are published by the National Hurricane Center.

Reaction from users of the Hurricane Tracker application during last year's storm season is overwhelmingly positive. Here's what some of them had to say:

-- "I had members of my traveling consulting team download the application. They were able to track hurricanes to plan business trips and determine the safety of loved ones."

-- "Graphically being able to view a storm's track is very beneficial; much easier and quicker than reading text."

-- "I had vital information after the power went out. This communication was reassuring during the storm."

The PageWriter 2000X and Timeport P930 PICs, powered by Motorola's FLEX(R) OS for data communications products, and the Timeport P935 PIC, powered by the company's Wisdom(TM) OS, can be uniquely customized and upgraded by individual users, and support third-party applications. Through add-on software, created by Motorola's network of wireless solution developers, the devices can also perform a broad range of applications, such as sales automation, financial tracking, medical information-gathering, real estate updates, weather and traffic updates, restaurant and movie listings and driving directions(a). All this data is accessed just by downloading compatible software from a desktop or notebook computer. More information about the PageWriter 2000X and Timeport P930 and P935 PICs can be found at www.motorola.com/smartpagers.

Motorola is a global leader in providing integrated communications solutions and embedded electronic solutions. Sales in 1999 were $33.1 billion.
