Kinetic Concepts Inc. Implements SolidWorks Software as Company-Wide Engineering Standard
CONCORD, Mass., March 6, 2000-- Leading Provider of Specialized Therapeutic Products Implements Mechanical Design Software

SolidWorks Corporation, a leading provider of affordable, easy-to-use 3D CAD software for the mainstream market, today announced that Kinetic Concepts, Inc. has selected SolidWorks software as the standard for its engineering, drafting, and manufacturing departments company-wide. Kinetic Concepts will utilize SolidWorks software to reduce design time and associated costs by implementing a concurrent design process.

Headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, Kinetic Concepts develops products that treat and prevent complications associated with patient immobility such as, skin breakdown, acute and chronic wounds, bariatric care, circulatory problems, and pulmonary distress. Kinetic Concepts' products are used in hospitals, long-term care, and home care settings throughout the United States and abroad.

Kinetic Concepts chose SolidWorks software because of its ability to reduce design time and seamlessly transfer data throughout the organization and to outside suppliers. SolidWorks also allows Kinetic Concepts' engineers to develop component parts within the context of an assembly, while checking for collisions between moving parts. This allows engineers to verify the accuracy of a design prior to the creation of a prototype.

"The mechanical engineers, drafting, and metal fabrication groups reviewed several 3D CAD software packages and the overwhelming recommendation was that we move to SolidWorks, " said Barry Crandall, vice president of Engineering for Kinetic Concepts. "SolidWorks is the best choice in terms of price, features, and ease of learning."

In addition to choosing SolidWorks, Kinetic Concepts purchased FeatureWorks(TM), SolidWorks' feature-recognition software, to aid in importing legacy data. The company is also using PhotoWorks(TM), SolidWorks' photo-realistic rendering software, and SolidWorks Animator, to create "how-to assemble" videos and online service manuals in lieu of the traditional, expensive hard copies produced by the technical publications department. Kinetic Concepts also purchased COSMOS/Works from Structural Research and Analysis Corporation to perform stress analysis while designing new products. COSMOS/Works is a SolidWorks Certified Gold Product.

Kinetic Concepts chose SolidWorks' reseller, MLC CAD Systems, to implement the suite of SolidWorks software tools. MLC, located in Austin, Texas, will provide complete training and implementation strategies for SolidWorks, as well as on-site and telephone support.
