ArcFM GIS Software Will Spatially Enable Distribution
Operations/Customer Information System; Miner and Miner to Provide
Consulting Services
Union Fenosa ACEX Integrates ArcFM with Its Open
Utilities Solution Software
Redlands, California-ESRI has announced an initiative to provide its ArcFM
geographic information system (GIS) software to be integrated with the Open Utilities
Customer Care and Distribution Automation Solution (Open Utilities) from Union
Fenosa ACEX.
Union Fenosa ACES USA Corporation is part of Union Fenosa ACES, a wholly
owned software and professional services subsidiary of Union Fenosa. Located in
Madrid, Union Fenosa is a global utility that serves 3,000,000 electric customers in the
deregulated Spanish market and has investments and business operations in twenty-seven
countries on five continents.
Open Utilities is a complete integrated solution set for distribution operations and
customer care management that includes comprehensive “best practices” consulting and
implementation services for electric, gas, and water utilities.
“We are excited to have the opportunity to collaborate with Union Fenosa ACEX, and
we are especially enthusiastic about the benefits the integrated solution will provide for
the energy market,” says Jack Dangermond, president, ESRI. “Whether it is a small
market utility with under 100,000 customers or a large utility with more than four million
customers, energy businesses looking to exploit the power of technology will benefit
from the spatially enabled Open Utilities system.”
Juan Benzal of Union Fenosa states, “With over forty installations of Open Utilities
across nearly every continent, we believe that partnering with world-class providers of
GIS through ESRI and Miner and Miner will ensure that our customers in North America
get a solution that will more than meet the challenges and complexities of the new utility
market environment.”
As part of the initiative, Miner and Miner, a GIS consulting firm based out of
Colorado, will provide software and services as well.
“I am pleased that Miner and Miner is part of the solution,” says Jeff Meyers,
president, Miner and Miner. “Integration of ArcFM with the Open Utilities product
solution provides a real opportunity for utilities to take advantage of an end-to-end
solution and presents a great business opportunity for the utility market.”
Open Utilities is a robust, scalable, full-function solution designed for utilities. Open
Utilities comprises two primary module sets: customer care and distribution automation.
The distribution automation solution includes applications for outage management, work
management, distribution preventive maintenance, and network control, all operating
from a common asset Oracle database.
ArcFM can act as the spatial technology component of this offering, giving users
access to spatial functionality as part of their information technology solution. By
spatially enabling Open Utilities, users can benefit from the use of spatial applications
and data that can be deployed across the enterprise. Whether it is a customer service
representative looking at a map of customer locations or an operations engineer
performing a query to locate facilities that meet a given criteria, the ability to integrate
spatial technology functionality within Open Utilities will provide a number of benefits to
utilities.
