ESRI Plans Global Distribution of LizardTech's MrSID and Expansion Into The Internet
SEATTLE, March 27 - LizardTech(TM) Inc., leading developer
of imaging technologies, and ESRI, the world leader in geographic information
system (GIS) software, today announced they have formed a strategic
relationship for the global distribution of LizardTech's product lines. ESRI
will market and sell LizardTech's product lines both domestically and
internationally. The strategic relationship between the two companies also
includes the creation and promotion of software bundles, especially in regards
to the distribution of massive geospatial imagery and data via the Internet.
This announcement significantly enhances the existing relationship between
the two companies. LizardTech and ESRI have been working together for more
than three years to create solutions that make working with GIS raster imagery
more powerful and extremely efficient. Today, LizardTech's MrSID(TM) Imaging
Language is supported by ESRI's suite of GIS software, including its
phenomenally successful ArcView GIS and ArcInfo software lines. This
expansion is the natural evolution of the already strong relationship between
the two companies.
"The new relationship with ESRI is a wonderful opportunity for LizardTech
to reach a broader market and strengthens our commitment to providing an
industry standard for viewing, distributing and sharing imagery and data,"
said John R. Grizz Deal, president and CEO of LizardTech.
"LizardTech has proven its innovation in imaging technology," said
Jack Dangermond, president of ESRI. "Our customers can now have more direct
access to LizardTech's products and solutions, and they can simplify their
business by utilizing ESRI's sales channels for both companies' product
lines."
About MrSID
LizardTech's MrSID provides users instant access to digital images of any
size while providing the highest quality images available anywhere. MrSID was
developed at Los Alamos National Laboratory by the same team that developed
the Federal Bureau of Investigation standard for fingerprint image
compression. MrSID has been designed specifically for customers who have
large file sizes, need fast access to their images and cannot tolerate any
visible loss in image quality. The MrSID product line includes the MrSID
Geospatial Edition, MrSID Publishing Edition, MrSID Image Server, as well as
MrSID viewers. The products are currently available from LizardTech directly
and from authorized resellers. MrSID increases productivity, reduces
transmission times and storage requirements of high-resolution images, and
delivers reproduction quality from single-source images that can be
re-purposed for any output device-from a Web site thumbnail to billboard size
poster. The MrSID Imaging Language is the standard raster file format within
the geospatial market. MrSID reduces the size of high-resolution images to
less than 5 percent of their original size, while maintaining the integrity
and geometric accuracy of the original. MrSID files are compatible with all
popular GIS applications and Web browsers including ArcView GIS and
MapObjects.
