ASPRS 2000 Annual Conference: Launching the Geospatial Information Age
WASHINGTON, May 16, 2000--Start the 21st Century: Launching the Geospatial Information Age At our Nation's Capitol, on May 22,2000 over 2000 professionals are expected to assemble at a conference sponsored by the nation's leading professional society for imagery and geospatial information, ASPRS. The participants will be introduced to the "cutting edge" technologies used in the fields of Agriculture/Soils, Archeology, Biology, Cartography, Ecology, Environment, Forestry/Range, Geodesy, Geography, Geology, Hydrology/water Resources, Land Appraisal/Real Estate, Medicine, Transportation, and Urban Planning/Development by world-renowned scientists, engineers, remote sensing, and geospational information specialists.

Experience a Glimpse of the Future

The National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA), will present a video flythrough using "cutting edge" imaging technologies of Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (IFSAR), Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR), HiDef-TV and IKONOS, the world's most accurate and advanced commercial satellite. Experience a glimpse of the future with the unbelievable realism and feature resolution for the geographic regions of Washington DC, Norfolk and Baltimore. This "Star Wars" like presentation will illustrate how scientific, societal, and commercial benefits can be realized from geospatial information for the 21st Century.

Keynote Address

Lieutenant General James C. King, Director of the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA), will present his vision of how the military and civilian sides of the Executive Branch can best exploit geospatial technologies to serve the nation in the 21st Century. Drawing on his experience as a leader and policy maker, Lt. General King, will help us see the potential of applications of geospatial data to support national defense, preserve our environment and provide outstanding service to the American people

The ASPRS 2000 Annual Conference will be held from Monday through Friday, May 22-26, with Monday and Tuesday reserved for Committee Meetings, Workshops and User Group Sessions. The Formal Opening, Educational Sessions and Exhibits will occupy the rest of the week. These Conference events will all be held at the Omni Shoreham Hotel, in Northwest Washington DC. Technical Tours, Guest Tours and Social Events will be scheduled at various times and locations during the Conference.
