London Mayer Receives Birds Eye View of London
May 11th, 2000, Cambridge: Following the recent London Election, Ken Livingston the newly elected Mayer was presented with a unique aerial view of London by Cities Revealed.

As part of The Association for Geographic Information (AGI) and the Royal Geographic Society’s (RGS) London Initiative, Mr Livingston and the other successful candidates were presented with a CD-ROM containing a 5 metre resolution aerial photographic dataset of London.

The Cities Revealed dataset, created by The GeoInformation Group the UK’s leading provider of high resolution geographic imaging solutions, was presented complete with the acclaimed Cities Revealed Viewing Software. The presentation pack also included other examples of how geographic data can be used to obtain further detail and information for issues such as transport, wildlife and deprivation in the capital.

Cities Revealed aerial photography offers a view of the capital, and other cities across the UK and abroad, as they are not usually seen. The 5 metre resolution dataset, created from the Cities Revealed 25cm resolution imagery of London, gives a full colour, seamless, vertical, digital aerial photographic image. The dataset enables users to view in detail such features as road markings, property types and extents and provides geographic information not available from traditional map bases.

The dataset is supplied with free, simple to use, viewing software. The software enables the user to move around the dataset zooming in and out to find the detail and location they require, export all or part of the dataset to other computer packages (including all leading GIS systems) and to print the images directly to a standalone or networked printer.

“Geographic information, particularly detailed information such as aerial photography, is an invaluable tool for all those involved in any decision making process. By demonstrating the power of the solutions that are available through this presentation pack it is hoped that the newly elected officials will understand some of the information resources and processes available.” Said Dr Alun Jones, Commercial Director, The GeoInformation Group.
