Northwood and Siradel Announce Software Interoperability Agreement

Mobile Business Solutions Booth #M599 - London, UK - November 7, 2000 - Northwood Technologies Inc. and Siradel S.A. today announced that they have agreed to make their respective networking planning technologies interoperable. As a result, the Northwood deciBel Planner® wireless network design software will be fully compatible with the Siradel Volcano® propagation software.

“Working together, deciBel Planner and Volcano will enable RF engineers to deploy complex UMTS/3G and fixed wireless networks in dense urban areas by exploiting the precision accuracy and speed of Siradel’s unique propagation engine,” said Bernard Breton, director of wireless development at Northwood. “Moreover, Volcano complements the versatile prediction models already included with deciBel Planner and allows Northwood and Siradel to build innovative indoor solutions.”

Recognized worldwide for its multi-environment propagation software, Siradel provides a suite of deterministic propagation models that are operational from 100 MHz to 60 GHz. “The Volcano model takes into account all propagation phenomena for any confined, urban and rural environment and quickly generates accurate predictions for all types of wireless cellular networks, including UMTS/3G networks.” said Jean-François Legendre, scientific director of Siradel S.A. “Due to its unique and powerful propagation capabilities, Volcano has been adopted by leading European mobile service providers including Telefonica, France Telecom and Pannon GSM.”

About deciBel Planner

deciBel Planner is a Windows-based wireless network design software application fully integrated with MapInfo Professional®. deciBel Planner seamlessly combines RF prediction capabilities and spatial analysis, enabling companies to efficiently build and optimize complex wireless networks. RF engineers can quickly pull together various types of data, such as terrain and clutter maps, streets, towers and demographic boundaries, in order to accurately design wireless networks and achieve optimal coverage at the lowest cost.

deciBel Planner offers built-in capabilities for cellular/PCS networks and supports UMTS, fixed wireless (WLL, LMDS & MMDS), CDMA and paging technologies. Extensions are also available for Assisted Frequency Planning and Urban Cellular applications.

About Volcano

A propagation software component developed by Siradel, Volcano is the result of nearly 10 years of dedicated research and development in meeting the demanding requirements of wireless telecommunications operators. Volcano can be integrated with any type of radio planning software tool, and offers deterministic propagation models that include UMTS-ready functions and powerful algorithms such as optimized ray-tracing / UTD (Uniform Theory of Diffraction) as well as outdoor and indoor propagations. Moreover, Volcano is unrivaled in its ability to generate highly accurate and fast calculations, which are essential for many radio planning tasks.
