Baltimore Gas & Electric Selects CES International's Centricity to
Enhance Customer Service
BALTIMORE, Nov 6, 2000 - CES International announced today that Baltimore Gas and
Electric Company (BGE) in an effort to enhance customer service, has selected the CES International Centricity software suite.
Centricity will give the Maryland utility the ability to restore power quicker during outages and improve day-to-day reliability by
automating the management and monitoring of daily network operations.
"CES International has clearly demonstrated to BGE its ability to build an outage management system that is responsive to the
needs of our customers while supporting the fundamental needs for our daily operations," said Ken DeFontes, BGE,
Vice-President Electric Transmission and Distribution. "Centricity will give BGE the additional tools we need to better serve our
customers."
The Centricity system will enable BGE to better manage day-to-day network operations and reduce restoration time during
power outages. The Centricity system streamlines and automates the process of analyzing customer calls, dispatching repair
crews, and managing crews while they are in the field restoring electrical power.
The CES International Centricity system ties customer location data and incoming calls regarding power outages into an
integrated computer network model that provides decision-making information in real time. This information provides
operations-center personnel and utility executives with a comprehensive view of network system operations. Personnel can
quickly dispatch and manage field repair crews to make outage repairs in the safest, fastest and most economical way.
"CES International is excited to see BGE adopt our technology," said Ken Geisler, CEO and president of CES International.
"We believe they will reap great benefits from the product, which, in turn, will enable BGE to provide its customers with the very
best service possible."
Centricity is an operations resource management (ORM) system that helps distribution utilities reduce restoration time, improve
operational efficiency and safeguard workers and the public.
Centricity supports trouble-call management, outage analysis, operations dispatch, crew management, switching-order
development, safety documentation, reporting and other critical operations functions. Centricity also includes applications to
support Internet-based energy delivery reliability and customer-service reporting, as well as real-time powerflow management.
In addition to application software, Centricity integrates multiple business information systems -- GIS, SCADA, CIS, and work
management to name a few -- so operators have an accurate and real-time view of the electrical model's current conditions.
Centricity also maintains a complete and accurate history of all outage events for management and regulatory reporting.
