Maptuit's Location-based Technology Selected by Sympatico-lycos for Its Wireless Internet Properties Across Canada

TORONTO, Nov. 22, 2000--Maptuit Corporation Wireless Internet Users Can Now Access Walking and Driving Directions Over Wireless Handsets

Maptuit Corporation announced today it has been chosen by Sympatico-Lycos as the exclusive provider of wireless location-based services for all of its Internet properties across Canada.

Effective immediately, Canadians can use web-enabled phones and two-way pagers to receive walking or driving directions to any location or address across the country. Maptuit's services will be available through Sympatico-Lycos' flagship properties, including sympatico.ca, tripod.ca, canada411.ca, yellowpages.ca, as well as Canadian city sites properties.

For instance, Canadians can access canada411.ca or yellowpages.ca via a web-enabled PCS phone or two-way pager to find a person or company's phone number and address. The Maptuit service then provides them with directions for walking or driving to a specific address along with the distance and the travel time.

Real-time directions using a wireless device are a tremendous asset to end users whether they are doing business in a new city or trying to chart the quickest route to a restaurant or store. Maptuit's technology provides superior mapping coverage, and its robust development services enabled Sympatico-Lycos to quickly integrate the location-based features across a number of properties.

"Telcos have been leading the charge into the rapid adoption of wireless services," says Jeff Papows, CEO, Maptuit. "Having Maptuit's technology selected as the exclusive provider of location-based services for the Sympatico-Lycos national network accelerates our focus on being the top supplier to the location-based services market in North America."

Maptuit is building its technology infrastructure to focus on location-based services (LBS). As the enabler of choice for wireline and wireless Internet LBS, it will serve both the consumer and business marketplace that includes retailers, service providers, entertainment services and government. Users can tap into Maptuit's database of more than 40 million roads in North America to find the quickest and most efficient route.
