New From The Centre for Topographic Information ... Virtually Canada

Sherbrooke (QUEBEC), October, 2000 - Since November 1999, the Centre for Topographic Information in Sherbrooke (CTI-S), a division of Geomatics Canada within the Department of Natural Resources Canada, has introduced a new product: Toporama. You can obtain this free product from the following Web site: http://toporama.ctis.nrcan.gc.ca.

CTI-S sees this as a major step in offering a product designed to make geomatics accessible to a broader segment of users. Toporama demonstrates the federal government's intent of offering products and services on the information highway.

Anyone who wants to consult topographic information for Canada would be interested in Toporama. You can get the product simply by downloading it from the Internet. This approach will give a range of users from across the world - from computers novices to experts in the fields of geomatics and - cartography access to the product.

It is a product that a broad range of users will find practical. Toporama is used primarily for desktop applications, such as word processing, electronic spreadsheets, and drawing/image software. It is a snap to use! Just select an image, copy it, and paste it into your desktop application, or select an image and copy to disk. The second method is the best approach for assembling a number of images to represent larger areas. The product is also a great way to give family and friends directions for getting to your home or cottage.

But the product is not limited to office automation: it also has applications in geography and mapping. For example, it can be used as a background map to which other information can be added. It can also serve to locate topographic features such as towns and lakes.

Try it: you will like it. Come see our new product at the following address: http://toporama.ctis.nrcan.gc.ca
