3rd Annual Event Expected to Bring Record Attendees
BURNSVILLE, Minn., Oct. 11 - Cygnus Expositions, a division
of Cygnus Business Media and a leader in business-to-business expositions,
announced that its Excavation Solutions Exhibit Floor at the Damage Prevention
Convention(R) has sold out. While exhibit space is sold out, registration for
conference sessions and passes for the show floor are still available.
The 2000 event will take place in Boston, November 29th - December 1st and
bring together nearly 200 exhibitors featuring the latest in technology for
the underground damage prevention industry. The show is comprised of some of
the industry's most respected manufacturers including Ditch Witch, IZOIC Inc.,
Presvac (Burlington) Systems Limited, Super Products Corporation, Vactor
Manufacturing, Vac-Tron Equipment, Vermeer Manufacturing and Wastequip/Cusco.
Potential exhibitors are encouraged to inquire about the waiting list.
"Expositions offer more opportunities to reach decision makers who buy
products," says Greg Geisler, President of Cygnus Expositions. "This
convention has grown over 20% from last year indicating that exhibitors are
seeing the value to introducing their products at this type of event."
The tradeshow business has grown over the last several years as exhibitors
rush to be a part of market specific shows. Recent statistics from the Center
for Exhibition Industry Research show that 79% of expo attendees use
tradeshows to decide what products or services to buy, while 50% of orders
placed at an expo do not require a sales call to close.
This year's Damage Prevention Convention(R) and Excavation Solutions Expo
is also the site of one of this country's most ambitious highway projects
commonly referred to as the Big Dig. The Big Dig or The Central Artery/Tunnel
Project's utility relocation program has moved 29 miles of gas, electric,
telephone, sewer, water, and other utility lines maintained by 31 separate
companies. An estimated 5,000 miles of fiber optic cable and 200,000 miles of
copper telephone cable will be installed.
The Annual Damage Prevention Convention(R) consistently provides a forum
to learn about and discuss current and emerging issues relating to the
prevention of damage to our vital subsurface infrastructure. The Expo
provides over 60 conference sessions for attendees tackling such topics as
ground penetrating radar, technical advances in utility mapping, locator
certification issues, vacuum excavation, operator qualification rules, case
histories, underground safety, internet issues, legal/claim overview and many
other issues in the Damage Prevention Industry.
Pre-conference workshops on the Role of GIS in Damage Prevention provide
knowledge on specific GIS technology applications and management issues,
sponsored by GITA. In addition, experts participating in the Big Dig will
share their lessons learned in protecting underground facilities which can
save billions of dollars in projects throughout the nation. On-site tours of
the Big Dig will also be offered in this session.
This year's Keynote Speakers hail from some of the country's most
influential groups involved in damage prevention. Robert Kennedy, Jr. is an
environmentalist, attorney and noted author and James Hall is Chairman of the
National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). A general session topic covering
"Damage Prevention: A National Priority" will be conducted by James H.
Anspach, P.G. Chairman of the American Society of Civil Engineer's
Construction Standards Council and Principal and Senior Geophysicist for the
So-Deep Companies.
