Trimble Sharpens Product Focus in Land Survey

Trimble and Spectra Precision Demonstrate 'Integrated Surveying' at Intergeo 2000

BERLIN, Oct. 11 - As part of the Company's product strategy for the Engineering and Construction Division, Trimble (Nasdaq: TRMB) announced today several enhancements to its land survey product line. These include: the GPS Total Station(R) 4700 with an extended range of field data collection solutions; a new survey controller for the Zeiss(R) Elta(R) surveying system; and the TTS(TM) Optical Survey Family superceded by the new Geodimeter(R) 600S DR 200+ Direct Reflex instrument.

"With the acquisition of Spectra Precision, we are sharpening our product focus and realizing synergies to aggressively address the land survey, civil engineering and construction markets," said Karl Ramstrom, senior vice president and general manager of Trimble's Engineering and Construction Division. "The synergy enables us to provide an even broader range of innovative positioning solutions and better serve our customers."

The announcement was made today at Intergeo 2000, the world's largest international event for geodesy and geoinformatics.

In addition, Trimble and Spectra Precision will be demonstrating the synergies of its combined survey solutions-Integrated Surveying(TM). Now, surveyors can work with GPS and optical surveying instruments seamlessly to save time and increase productivity.

GPS Total Station 4700 with Enhanced Data Collection Solutions

Trimble will discontinue the Geotracer(R) and Zeiss Elta GPS receivers in the first quarter of 2001. The company will offer the GPS Total Station 4700 --a modular real-time kinematic (RTK) surveying system -- with an enhanced range of field data collection solutions including the Geodimeter Geodat(R)Win field system and the Zeiss Elta Survey Controller. These platforms can now offer surveyors the advantage of using the world's leading GPS technology. With the GPS Total Station 4700, these data collection solutions will benefit from lower power consumption, lighter weight, longer battery life, extreme field ruggedness and Trimble's field proven RTK performance.

The GeodatWin platform offers advanced data collection and computation for real-time surveying in the field. It allows surveyors to perform centimeter-level CAD and mapping tasks as well as create Digital Terrain Models. GeodatWin is capable of Integrated Surveying, interfacing to GPS and optical survey systems seamlessly in the field. With its VGA touch screen interface, this highly graphical Windows(R) 95 based solution enables functions previously confined to the office to be carried out in the field in real-time, enhancing productivity and improving quality control.

The new Zeiss Elta Survey Controller offers a larger, semi-graphical display and faster computing power. It is a popular platform for European surveyors who are using Zeiss Elta products, such as levels and total stations. It supports the special cadastral requirements for Germany and bordering countries. The new survey controller will also be capable of Integrated Surveying, interfacing to Trimble GPS and Geodimeter optical survey systems seamlessly in the field.

GeodatWin and the Zeiss Elta Survey Controller are expected to be available for the GPS Total Station 4700 system in the fourth quarter of 2000.

Geodimeter 600S DR 200+ Direct Reflex Total Station Series

With the introduction of the Geodimeter 600S DR 200+ Direct Reflex in August of 2000, Trimble is discontinuing the TTS Optical Survey Family. The Geodimeter 600S DR 200+ addresses the same market sectors as the TTS 300 and TTS 500 Optical Survey Systems, and offers a variety of additional benefits such as servo, robotic capability and on-board software. The Geodimeter 600S DR 200+ is unique in the marketplace in terms of its long-range Direct Reflex capability of more than 200 meters.

Trimble and Spectra Precision Demonstrate Integrated Surveying

Flexible software and easy-to-use interfaces makes working with GPS and optical survey instruments simple and efficient. Trimble and Spectra Precision demonstrate Integrated Surveying with its family of data collectors and application software. This family includes the Trimble Survey Controller(TM) software for the TSC1(TM) data collector, the GeodatWin field computer and software, and the Elta Survey Controller. These data collectors can be used with Trimble, Geodimeter and Zeiss surveying systems. Integrated Surveying allows surveyors and civil engineers to use one data collector for all their equipment, saving time and increasing productivity.
