Autodesk Announces Support for Intel New Itanium Processor Print

San Rafael, California, October 11, 2000—Autodesk, Inc. (Nasdaq: ADSK), the world's leading design and digital content creation company, today announced its support for the new Intel® Itanium™ processor. Autodesk is dedicating engineering efforts to optimize future versions of its leading design platforms, including AutoCAD®, Autodesk Inventor™, and VISION*® software, to take advantage of the performance enhancements that Itanium will provide. In addition, Discreet™, a division of Autodesk and a leader in digital content creation, last January was the first to demonstrate native 3D modeling and animation on the Itanium processor with its 3d studio max® software.

Autodesk and Discreet will be participating at the Intel eXCHANGE in San Francisco on October 10, and will provide demonstrations of 3d studio max running on an Itanium-based workstation.

"Our customers can be very demanding when it comes to performance," said Scott Borduin, chief technology officer of Autodesk. "In many cases their success hinges on the use of our software, so their high expectations are warranted, and the challenge of delivering software that makes our customers more effective is our passion. We've always worked closely with Intel to ensure optimum performance on their platforms, and the Itanium processors will give us and our customers a significant leap forward."

"Autodesk's support of our Itanium processor is important, and we've been working closely with them to ensure we address their needs," said Anand Chandrasekher, VP, Intel Architecture Group, and director of the Intel Architecture Marketing Group. "All of Autodesk's design products—from the graphics rich 3d studio max to the AutoCAD design platform—will benefit from the outstanding floating-point performance that the Itanium processor delivers."
