RADARSAT International Awarded Contract to Distribute
ERS and ENVISAT Data
RADARSAT International (RSI) of Richmond, Canada announced today that the
European Space Agency (ESA) has awarded the SARCOM consortium (of which RSI
is a prime team member), the rights to distribute ERS and ENVISAT satellite
data worldwide.
RSI has been awarded the rights to distribute data sets from ERS and the
future ENVISAT satellite to the North and South American markets as well as
value-added products and projects to the worldwide market. This contract is
effective as of October 1, 2000
"This contract, which essentially follows on from our current agreement to
distribute ERS data, gives us an excellent opportunity to build the
commercial market toward the ENVISAT era in 2001. By building on the
existing synergy of the ERS and RADARSAT-1 programs, we will be able to use
the information provided by both satellite programs to further develop the
commercial market, in addition to developing new ones" said Adrian Bohane,
Director of Worldwide Sales.
This contract allows RSI to offer RADARSAT-1, ERS and ENVISAT data services
to our clients either directly or via our strong distributor networks.
Customers will continue to be provided with the same high-quality Client
Services that they have come to expect.
The SARCOM consortium members will work together to provide users with
specialized products and services to address pollution monitoring, natural
hazard monitoring and mapping, as well as maritime applications worldwide.
The products and services will be designed using a multi-sensor approach,
which combines the unique attributes of radar and optical satellite data.
The development of the consortium was spearheaded by Spot Image, and
includes eight of the worlds top Earth Observation Services/Data provider
companies. Data pricing reflects the new pricing introduced by the SARCOM
consortium and is available on the RSI web site www.rsi.ca
