Verizon Information Services Launches Enhanced SuperPages.com; New Site Combines Nationwide Information Resources and Offers New Tools for Small Businesses and Consumers

DALLAS, Oct. 20, 2000--Verizon Information Services, the world's largest directory company, today announced the launch of an enhanced SuperPages.com(SM) service, the nation's leading online yellow pages and shopping resource.

BigYellow.com, formerly of Bell Atlantic, and SuperPages.com and BigBook.com, formerly GTE's online directories, have been combined into a single Web destination, making it the most complete nationwide online Yellow Pages directory and a leading information resource on the Web. Users can access the site through the Internet at www.superpages.com.

"SuperPages.com is much more than a phone book on the Internet," said Pat Marshall, group vice president - marketing for Verizon Information Services.

"SuperPages.com makes the Internet a more manageable and useable resource for consumers, and provides small businesses with an easy and cost-effective means of establishing an Internet presence on a highly trafficked, well-known site."

In addition to the newly added PeoplePages, an online, nationwide residential directory, the enhanced SuperPages.com site features a new look and redesigned logo.

The introduction of several new features including Merchant Match, more complete Yellow Pages listings, EZChooser(SM), and enhanced shopping content under SuperTopics, makes the site a more comprehensive resource and research tool for consumers and small businesses.

Also, for those who want to access SuperPages.com via wireless technology, Verizon recently launched a wireless application protocol (WAP)-enabled version of SuperPages.com for use with Web phones and a downloadable Web clipping application for users of the Palm(TM) VII series handheld computer.

SuperPages.com will continue to offer users the most complete nationwide Yellow Pages directory with online shopping, Consumer Guide product reviews and recommendations, classified ads, local discounts, special offers, maps and driving directions, and more.

Super Topics, a new section on the site, features a variety of categories including Entertainment & Leisure, Business and Home Improvement that provide direct links to online merchants, useful information and tips to help consumers become informed shoppers. SuperPages.com users can search for local merchants, products and services that might be located across the country.

New Features

Verizon will continue to enhance the site with new features, resource offerings, and technology to make the site the primary Internet resource for consumers and small businesses. At launch, the following new features will be available immediately:

-- Merchant Match - Based on a recent agreement with netgenShopper.com, Verizon has added a reverse auction capability to SuperPages.com. This new feature, called Merchant Match, links interested buyers to qualified merchants creating a buyer/seller matching network. The service will enable local businesses to find new customers and drive sales, and helps buyers make informed purchasing decisions allowing them to receive multiple bids on a specific purchase through one simple online request form.

-- Enhanced Listings - SuperPages.com will begin enhancing its Yellow and White Pages database using Verizon's business and residential telephone listings. The largest telephone company in the world, Verizon Communications provides wireline services in 67 out of the top 100 U.S. markets. Adding some of these listings from these key markets to the SuperPages.com database will make SuperPages.com the most accurate Yellow and White Pages service on the Internet.

-- EZChooser - EZChooser is a feature within Consumer Guide's New Car Guide found on SuperPages.com. Users can compare the features of multiple vehicles within the same class including base price, loaded price and mileage. The selection is reduced to the number of vehicles available that match the user's specifications, helping consumers arrive at the optimal selection.

Merchant Match and EZChooser are the first of many enhancements Verizon is planning to make to the SuperPages.com site.

"SuperPages.com connects people. Whether you're a small business owner or consumer, SuperPages.com has the tools to make the Internet a valuable shopping resource," said Marshall. "EZChooser and Merchant Match are features designed to attract these groups to each other, introduce them, and keep them working together."
