Litton Selects SolidWorks Software as Solid Modeling Solution for Its Guidance & Control Systems Division

CONCORD, Mass., Oct. 30, 2000-- 3D CAD Software Used to Design Systems for Airborne, Ground, Sea, and Space Applications

SolidWorks(R) Corporation, a leading provider of affordable, easy-to-use 3D CAD software for the mainstream market, today announced that the Guidance and Control Systems (G&CS) division of Litton Industries (NYSE: LIT) has chosen SolidWorks as the division's standard solid modeling solution. Litton is using 50 seats of SolidWorks to design and manufacture sophisticated systems for airborne, ground, sea, and space applications.

Headquartered in Woodland Hills, California, Litton's G&CS division is a leading developer and producer of sophisticated systems for military applications. Its products include fire control and weapons management computers, cockpit integration, friend-or-foe identification, altitude and heading reference systems, inertial navigation and guidance platforms, and measuring systems for all classes of military vehicles and weapons.

Litton G&CS chose SolidWorks software because of its powerful modeling capabilities, ease-of-use, and affordability. With SolidWorks, Litton G&CS is able to design a large number of products quickly while maintaining a high level of reliability.

"Litton products can be found in air, sea, and land platforms in every branch of the United States military, the space program, and in dozens of foreign countries," said Doug Roberts, Manager of Engineering Information Technology at Litton G&CS. "We need to design all our products accurately and quickly with absolutely no flaws. The intuitive, easy-to-use modeling and drawing features found in SolidWorks streamline our entire design process and make communicating design content painless."

Roberts continued, "Our customers demand a high level of performance from our products. With SolidWorks, we're able to eliminate design flaws, enhance quality, and produce systems efficiently, which translates into a higher level of customer satisfaction."

"Working with Litton is a big achievement for SolidWorks," said John McEleney, vice president of the Americas for SolidWorks. "Litton is an internationally recognized leader and pioneer in the field of navigation systems, and now using SolidWorks 3D design and visualization capabilities, they are able to work smarter and faster."

In addition to SolidWorks, Litton G&CS is using several SolidWorks partner applications including COSMOS/Works from Structural Research & Analysis Corporation and eMatrix SolidWorks from Matrix One, Inc. Litton G&CS is also working with Express CAD Engineering, Inc. for consulting and training services.
