REDMOND, Wash., Apr 16, 2001 -- Conversay, a global leader in enabling speech technologies for both mobile and traditional Internet access devices, announced today it will integrate speech technology into applications built for embedded mobile devices by Korea-based Mobile Mutant. The partnership is expected to result in the first speech-enabled platform-free applications built specifically for mobile devices, using Mobile Mutant's own Flash(TM) player.

"Device manufacturers and application providers will be able to use Mobile Mutant(TM) applications to not only boost the dynamic graphic quality and platform independence, but also enhance the content with Conversay's speech recognition and text-to-speech capabilities," said Ora Williamson, general manager of embedded solutions at Conversay. "The end user of these devices gets a tremendously exciting and friendly interface that will add significantly to the devices' value and appeal."

"Incorporating speech into our SWF-based dynamic content and application will enhance data and networked information retrieved by the device, as well as business applications, Web solutions, entertainment content, such as games or cartoons, and so on," said Jullian Cho, manager of business development at Mobile Mutant. "That makes the device more efficient and effective as a wireless data device for enterprise/business environments, as well as enhancing its common role for personal or entertainment uses."

The SWF file format of Mobile Mutant's Flash player is ideal for incorporating sound into vector-based interactive and animated graphics for the Web. With this partnership, Mobile Mutant expects to be the first to speech enable such graphics on applications designed specifically for mobile devices. These applications include a GPS system, PDA Business application for Hyundai Motors, the largest automobile manufacturer in Korea. Mobile Mutant's animated graphic content in these applications can be accessed, navigated and commanded by spoken commands.

Mobile Mutant provides platform-free application development tools & servers, for both wireless and wired market, using SWF (flash file format). Mutant Builder & Server(TM) allows users to build and extend platform free applications without changing their previous system, such as MIS applications for PDAs, E-commerce applications, E-learning systems, car-PC applications, etc. Mobile Mutant headquarters are in Seoul, Korea, and is located on the web at www.mobilemutant.com.

Founded in 1994, Conversay provides solutions that enable voice interaction with networked information, including the Internet, when other interfaces are difficult or impossible. Built on an innovative speech engine, Conversay(TM) technology is speaker-independent, modular, scalable and accommodates unlimited vocabulary, making it ideally suited for embedded applications. It also drives the award-winning line of Conversation(TM) products including a voice browser, a server, and developer tools for the web, desktop, server, and embedded markets.
