Terrasolid’s TerraScan LiDAR Processing Software Now Available From Airborne 1
Airborne 1 Corporation (LA, California, USA) and Terrasolid Ltd. (Helsinki,
Finland) are pleased to announce the implementation of a Master Distributor
agreement. Airborne 1 is now an Authorized Master Distributor for Terrasolid’s
software products including the popular TerraScan LiDAR Data Processing
package. “We are delighted at this development” said Todd Stennett, CEO
Airborne 1, “and we are looking forward not only to distributing this software
to our own clients, but also to establishing a network of resellers across
North America to further increase the availability of these excellent tools to
the entire LiDAR data end user community.”
TerraScan is a dedicated software solution for processing LiDAR data that runs
on top of Bentley's Microstation. Unlike many older software packages,
TerraScan can easily handle the tens of millions of points common in large
LiDAR data sets, in fact as many as 40,000,000 points per GB of RAM. As a
dedicated LiDAR data solution, all data handling routines are tweaked for
optimum performance when handling large laser point clouds. Its versatile
manipulation, visualization and classification tools prove useful in
topographic surveying, surveying of transmission lines, flood plains, proposed
highways, stockpiles, forest areas or urban centers. An intuitive GUI and
common Windows interface make deploying and optimizing TerraScan a
straightforward task in any production environment. Customizable macro
programming, user-defined project structures and automated batch processing
make TerraScan an extremely flexible and versatile tool that allows end users
to move away from proprietary, black box software solutions and take control of
their own LiDAR data. TerraScan reads points directly from any ASCII XYZ text
file, allows users to work in an open-source binary format for smaller file
size and faster access and easily allows conversion between various standard
formats.
“We evaluated the Terrasolid products extensively and benchmarked them against
our existing toolsets and we were delighted by their performance, speed, and
ease-of-use.” said Martin Flood, Airborne 1’s Chief Technical Officer. “In
addition to the great productivity gains we have seen internally here at
Airborne 1, many of our photogrammetry and engineering clients, as well as
their clients, are becoming tired of having to rely on a service provider's or
instrument manufacturer’s exclusive, proprietary, black-box solutions for their
LiDAR data manipulation and classification. They want to be able to handle
their own LiDAR data quickly and easily and they want the freedom to do their
own data classification, such as extracting bare earth from the full laser
point cloud. We feel TerraScan and the related Terrasolid products are an
excellent toolset to allow our clients and other LiDAR data end users to
develop in-house expertise and finally be able to see the ground for
themselves.”
With respect to the Reseller network, Mr. Stennett added "We're
witnessing a rapidly growing network of authorized resellers across North
America. Our own client base shares many of our needs for efficiency, and they
in turn enjoy being able to help their own customers enjoy the same gains.
This software finally affords users at all levels a cost-effective mechanism to
view and classify massive datasets with speed and simplicity. And those who
choose to become authorized resellers themselves will be best positioned to
help their clients achieve more in less time. Obviously, they are at the same
time creating a new revenue stream for their firms as well.”
In North America TerraScan is available both as a full-featured LiDAR data
manipulation and classification tool and as a low-cost LiDAR data viewer. The
viewer includes all the features of the full package except for the ability to
automatically classify the laser data. List price for the full version is
$4,950 US, for the Viewer $295. Software bundles, volume discounts and
educational/academic discounts are available upon request. A 30-day
demonstration license of the full TerraScan package is available upon request
at www.airborne1.com. TerraModeler, a full-featured terrain modeling
application that directly integrates with TerraScan, is also available.
Airborne 1 provides flexible access to advanced LiDAR technology for clients in
the photogrammetry, surveying and mapping fields. Airborne 1's digital mapping
services and solutions include a dedicated airborne LiDAR survey group
operating Optech ALTM sensors; flexible fractional ownership plans for clients
without dedicated access to LiDAR technology; LiDAR data processing, analysis
and application development; LiDAR field survey coordination and project
management.
