Logica Delivers $1.2 Million Integrated Work Management Solution to Manage Lee County Electric Cooperative's Distribution Activities in Florida

LEXINGTON, Mass., April 16, 2001-- WMIS supports cooperative-wide automation strategy; solution to streamline business processes and increase overall operational efficiency, productivity and customer service for LCEC

Logica announced today that its $1.2 million integrated work management information system (WMIS) solution is in full production at Lee Country Electric Cooperative (LCEC). The integrated WMIS project was completed in eight months and is part of LCEC's program to modernize and automate all information operations for over 147,000 electric customers in five Florida counties. WMIS will manage all aspects of LCEC's distribution activities, from designing and constructing new power lines to maintaining them.

The integrated work management solution enables LCEC to schedule work requests more efficiently, track equipment and materials, and forecast the usage of resources. Overall, the system will improve customer service, increase operational efficiency, reduce operating expenses and allow LCEC to achieve greater productivity.

"LCEC anticipates a three year payback in terms of reduced costs from improved operational efficiency by automatically being able to match jobs with government inspections. Currently, Operations schedulers spend about three hours a day trying to match inspections with jobs," said Charles Houck, LCEC's Engineering Supervisor.

In addition WMIS will expand "Quick Serves" by allowing LCEC to add new projects to the schedule. Quick Serves are well defined projects meeting specific construction criteria, which have a construction life cycle of 2 days or less.

As part of the integrated work management solution, Logica interfaced WMIS with several of LCEC's information systems including Oracle Financial Accounting and Payroll and Inventory system, GIS, trouble call, and customer information systems.

"WMIS represents a significant component of our strategy to automate business processing," said Bill Hetherington, LCEC's Director of Electric Systems. "WMIS enhances how we make, track and meet customer commitments. The system's rich functionality, combined with Logica's excellent implementation capabilities, matches our goal to increase resource productivity while improving responsiveness to our customers' needs."

Jim Cypert, Logica executive vice president for energy and utilities, said, "WMIS is the cornerstone system for any utility embarking on an enterprise-wide automation project. For LCEC, this means that with virtually no customization, our core WMIS product provided the foundation for a fully integrated solution in which multiple systems share operational data. The result is a faster project start-up at less cost and improved customer service."

Lee County Electric Cooperative, Inc. (LCEC) was organized in 1940 under a federal program that provided low-interest government loans for the construction of electric and water systems in rural America. Today, LCEC serves over 147,000 utility customers in five Southwest Florida counties with over 6,000 miles of transmission and distribution lines.
