SkyCross Announces New 800MHz-2.5GHz Antenna For Telematics and Other
Wireless Applications

MELBOURNE, Fla., April 17, 2001--SkyCross Inc., a leading developer of advanced wireless antenna
solutions, has announced a new wide-band antenna capable of handling satellite and terrestrial communications -- reducing the need for
multiple antennas for next-generation mobile wireless applications.
SkyCross' new antenna, which operates from 800 MHz to 2.5GHz, is designed for telematics and other new applications that will be
capable of handling multiple forms of wireless communications. In the telematics area, for example, future automobiles may include standard
equipment such as GPS, cellular, and other wireless devices on board. Currently, each of these devices requires an individual antenna --
which drives up cost and size, and could lead to communication interference.
SkyCross' new antenna enables manufacturers to utilize a single antenna that can handle each of these unique applications. The antenna
can operate with circular polarization for satellite reception, or can be electrically switched to a linear polarization (either H or V) mode for
terrestrial use. It can be produced with a >= +2dBic at zenith for satellite reception and with somewhat reduced gain near the horizon.
The unique capability and design is made possible by SkyCross' patented Meander Line Antenna (MLA) technology, which dramatically
increases the efficiency and signal pattern for wireless applications.
Specifically, this antenna is designed to function as a common interface to the following communications channels:
-
800/900 MHz Cellular/GSM Mobile communications (Vertical Polarization)
-
1500 MHz GPS receiver (Right Hand Circular Polarization)
-
1800/1900 MHz DCS/PCS Mobile communications (Vertical Polarization)
-
2300 MHz Digital Satellite Audio (Left Hand Circular Polarization)
-
2400 MHz Bluetooth local area networking (Vertical Polarization)
"Future wireless applications will demand antenna solutions that are smaller, more cost-effective, and can handle a wide range of
frequencies," said Alan Haase, CEO of SkyCross. "SkyCross' unique technology gives us the flexibility to customize solutions that can
handle a broad range of applications in a single antenna at a competitive price."
The wide-band antenna is the newest in SkyCross' family of custom wireless antenna solutions. SkyCross recently introduced the first
embedded 5GHz antenna that can be designed into high data-rate wireless LAN (local area network) devices -- including wireless laptops,
PDAs, and PCMCIA cards. The 5GHz WLAN antenna is a high-performance, low-profile element that transmits the wireless signal in a
omnidirectional azimuth pattern, which provides better coverage and reduces dropped signals compared to traditional antennas.
SkyCross, a Milcom Technologies company, is a leader in next generation antenna technology for mobile and fixed wireless
telecommunications, automotive, and mobile computing markets. SkyCross' state-of-the-art technology was initially created for high
performance military applications by Lockheed-Sanders Corporation (now BAE Systems). SkyCross owns the commercial rights to all
non-restricted antenna technology from BAE.
