ComROAD steps up technology investment in the US market

Jump to Website Here
Unterschleissheim (Germany), 23 April 2001 - Due to the exceptional development of the US market for telematic technology, ComROAD AG, leading provider of telematic networks, will intensify its business activities in the USA. Through important partnerships with, amongst others, Casio, DaimlerChrysler, Infospace, Microsoft, NTT and Paccar, InfoMove, Inc. (Seattle) has emerged as the leading provider of the technology for telematics portals in the US market. ComROAD AG has therefore raised its interest in InfoMove from 12% to more than 25% in order to secure a strong position in the American telematics market early on.

InfoMove is a provider of wireless portal solutions on the basis of the US mobile radio standard CDPD and targets telecom network operators as well as providers of PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants) and wireless content. By combining ComROAD's GTTS (Global Transport Telematic System) technology with InfoMove's portal technology, American customers, via the network standards GSM, GPRS, CDPD, CDMA and TDMA, are offered telematic services in the vehicle, via PDA and mobile phones. InfoMove is planning a turnover of $ 6.4 million for the business year 2001 - and $ 35 million for 2002.

According to a study of UBS Warburg, the US market, with an estimated volume of $ 21.7 billion until 2010, will be the world's biggest market for telematic technology - compared to Asia and Europe with $ 13.5 billion respectively. Until 2015, according to ITS America, the US market is expected to increase to $ 200 billion and thus take half of the world's accumulated market volume of $ 400 billion. Accordingly, ComROAD, over the next few years, is planning to put up the US share of its annual turnover from currently 5% to 30 - 40 %. Through its interests in further providers of telematic technology, including ESEMDE (Boca Raton), Intelliworxx (Sarasota), Telcontar (San Jose) and t+t netcom (Vienna), ComROAD has built up a network of 200 highly competent telematics specialists. On the strength of this core competence, unrivalled on the telematics market, and of its global marketing strategy, ComROAD continues on its course of extending its worldwide network of currently 33 partners as operators of a GTTS telematics portal and marketer of in-car computers. Via its partners, ComROAD has already achieved a successful entrance into the market in 30 countries worldwide.
