BURLINGTON, Mass., Aug 20, 2001 - Maptuit, a leading supplier of location-based eGeo services, today announced a strategic relationship with Tele
Atlas North America, Inc., a unit of Tele Atlas NV, under which Maptuit will continue to build its Western European services on Tele Atlas map data as it expands into that
marketplace.
Through its parent, Tele Atlas North America is providing Maptuit with the most comprehensive, accurate and extensive map data for Western Europe as the basis for Maptuit's eGeo
services. E-Geo services are electronic mapping and navigation services based on current road networks and driving conditions that are being deployed throughout North America by
transport and logistics customers.
Maptuit chose Tele Atlas data for its accuracy and breadth of data, said Bob Tapscott, Maptuit co-founder and senior vice president. "Our combined strengths with Tele Atlas give
Maptuit's international customers and European prospects the applications needed for Location-Based Services (LBS), Fleet Management, and Dispatch," he explained.
Richard Selmeier, president of Tele Atlas North America, said, "Tele Atlas is committed to providing the most comprehensive and accurate map data available, no matter where users
are located and no matter in which area of the world users are interested. Our strategic relationship with Maptuit leverages the best that both companies have to offer: Maptuit with
powerful dispatch, fleet logistics and location-based technologies, and Tele Atlas with the most global digital map database available."
Maptuit's eGeo services based on Tele Atlas data in Europe will include:
real-time routing technology that recommends primary, and, if
necessary, alternate routes based on traffic conditions
real-time multiple-destination routing that takes into consideration
the windows of availability at each destination for commercial
deliveries, typically saving 20 percent in time or distance traveled
dynamic real-time fleet optimization to address changing needs
least-cost door-to-door routes that save time and money compared with
existing systems
interactive, dynamic, high resolution maps with support for a variety
of devices, including cell phones, PDAs and web browsers
proximity searches that rank candidate locations by travel time based
on the point of query and mode of travel, providing better results
than simplistic radial or postal code searches
geocoding technology that takes into account the nuances of local
language and naming conventions to ensure drivers find their
destinations quickly and easily
