BURLINGTON, Mass., Aug 22, 2001 - Maptuit Corporation, a leading global provider of wireless and wireline eGeo services, today announced strategic
alliances with Singapore-based Agis Pte Ltd. and Connectopia to launch an eGeo system that will allow Singaporeans to locate businesses and local attractions via GSM mobile
phones and get directions to those locations.
Agis Pte Ltd. is a Geographical Information Systems (GIS) company specializing in the collection of map data and Connectopia is the owner of Zeepee, a Short Message System
(SMS) entertainment and people finder. EGeo systems are those communications services that combine telephony systems with digitized maps to provide consumers and
businesses with enhanced means of efficiently locating and reaching destinations.
Maptuit, which opened offices in Singapore last April to supply wireless and Internet routing services locally, uses a database of the global road network to allows users of wireless
devices to look up addresses, create maps, search for points of interest and calculate most efficient routes between two points.
Maptuit has successfully completed modeling the Singapore road network and will soon be offering directions, traffic and weather conditions to mobile phones through alliances with
local communication companies. In order to promote the company in the region, Maptuit exhibited at Communicasia 2001 in June. Maptuit demonstrated its mobile concierge
application, an industry- first in the region, allowing Singaporeans to locate restaurants, hotels and other attractions via their mobile phone and get directions to that location.
Connectopia, known for its Zeepee! services, will use Maptuit's services to deploy a next generation SMS, location-based service. "Zeepers" -- subscribers to the Zeepee! Service -- as
well as everyone who owns a GSM mobile phone, will be able to search for points of interest using their phones and receive directions to those locations via SMS messages.
Connectopia will offer Zeepers the quickest routes to their destinations and will include valuable information such as distance and travel time.
"We are very excited to offer Maptuit's directions service to our Zeepers as well as to the public," said Edward Chen, Director, Connectopia. "This innovative service puts powerful
location-based services in the hands of both consumers and business, independently of the cellular infrastructure and without needing special hand phones."
Maptuit has also teamed with Agis, a company that specializes in the collection of high quality street data in Singapore. Agis has a database of points of interest such as restaurants,
pubs, clinics, ATMs, neighborhood coffee shops and 4-D Toto outlets throughout Singapore. Using Maptuit's technology, Agis will be able to offer optimal routes from one destination
to another.
"Maptuit and Agis have many complementing services," said Poon Kim Ying, Director, Agis, "The solution that will result from this partnership will help businesses in their operations,
such as monitoring, tracking, routing and scheduling. The bottom line is improved productivity, effective routing and more efficient allocation of resources -- resulting in increased
profits."
Maptuit CEO Jeff Papows said, "By partnering with Agis and Connectopia, Maptuit can continue to achieve success in Asia. With high quality data from Agis and SMS technology
from Connectopia, our services are enhanced and delivered using the latest in wireless communications. Maptuit will continue to be a strong player in this market, through
partnerships with organizations such as Agis and Connectopia that enhance our services and expand our scope."
Maptuit has successfully developed eGeo markets in the US and Canada, signing as clients and partners such companies as Bell Mobility, Descartes, 724 Solutions, Cannon
Express, Melton, SiGem, Sympatico-Lycos, PowerLoc and Conseco. In addition to its high quality data and services, Maptuit brings the experience of its management team, led by
two major players in the IT industry. Jeff Papows, former CEO and President of IBM's Lotus Development subsidiary, is now the CEO of Maptuit and Don Tapscott, author of the New
York Times best selling business book, Digital Capital, is the Chairman.
