USGS TO CLOSE SPOKANE MAP SALES OFFICE

The U.S. Geological Survey's Earth Science Information Center (ESIC), commonly known as the map sales office, located in the U.S. Post Office Building at 904 West
Riverside Ave., in Spokane, Wash., will officially close on Friday, December 28, 2001.
Until then, the office, which is open in Room 135 of the Post Office building, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, is an excellent place to shop for interesting
and educational holiday gifts. The ESIC has a full stock of current topographic maps for Washington, Oregon and Idaho, as well as a number of large poster maps that
depict various parts of the world and geologic processes. Also available are USGS books, professional papers and CDs for sale and a number of free brochures that explain
geologic, hydrologic and cartographic processes.
Following the closure of the ESIC and transfer of the map stock to USGS centers in California and Denver, Colo., the four employees of the Spokane facility will be
transferred to other USGS cartographic duties in the Spokane area.
USGS maps, other printed materials and CD Roms will continue to be available from the distribution center in Denver, and may be ordered on the web at www.usgs.gov, or
by calling 1-888-ASK-USGS.
