All of Denmark online with some of the world's largest images

Egham, UK - December 2001 -- Kampsax, a leading European data supplier has officially launched their Image Web Server web-site www.kortal.dk, streaming across the Internet some of the world's largest images - including a 2 Terabyte (2,000GB) mosaic covering the entire country of Denmark.

Where traditional maps are an interpretation of reality, Denmark's Digital Orthophoto (DDO) provides a precise and continuously updated reproduction of the physical conditions. www.kortal.dk offers you the possibility of seeing the Danish world from above. This unrivalled Image Web Server portal allows users to easily roam, pan and zoom precise locations of significance, identifying objects of up to 40 centimeters thus providing a lifelike, almost sensuous, reproduction of Denmark.

Kampsax flew the data from 1999 to 2000, the first true completed survey carried out over the millenium period for one country. ER Mapper was used to process the captured data into one enormous mosaic. In order to serve the mosaic across the Internet, Kampsax compressed the mosaic to a reduced size using Earth Resource Mapping's patented Enhanced Compressed Wavelet (ECW) technology.

'My colleagues of Kampsax did a tremendous job making a mosaic like that. www.kortal.dk is only the tip of the iceberg. We expect to deliver our Orthophoto (DDO) and other types of maps directly through the Internet into leading GIS systems, including MapInfo, by the use of ER Mapper's stunning Image Web Server technology', Tim Bergholdt Hansen, Development Manager for Kampsax. Kampsax naturally adopted an Image Web Server to serve the mosaic across the Internet because a user can simply access the image from any personal desktop Internet browser at a rapid rate and different resolutions in seconds. The English version of www.kortal.dk will be on-line early in 2002.

    About Earth Resource Mapping

Earth Resource Mapping is the world's leading image handling and integrated mapping software company. Clients in more than 120 countries use ER Mapper to prepare imagery, ECW to compress and use imagery, and the Image Web Server to serve imagery over the Internet.
