FGDC Announces 2001 Cooperative Agreements Program

The Federal Geographic Data Committee is pleased to announce the 2001 Cooperative Agreements Program. This program is designed to promote the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) basic concepts of metadata, clearinghouse, standards, and framework by providing seed money to individuals and organizations. The seed money is used to help defray "startup" costs and is intended to help organizations change their way of doing business to that which conforms or adheres to the NSDI concepts. The CAP2001 program is funded to give away over $1,000,000. You can read more about the CAP2001 program and/or download application documents at the CAP 2001 Program Information Page at http://www.fgdc.gov/funding/cap2001.html . The program is open till March 14, 2001.

The CAP 2001 has 2 metadata components.
(1) Don't Duck Metadata: Metadata Creation and Implementation - provides assistance to organizations in acquiring the skill and knowledge to document data for clearinghouse discovery. Metadata is a basic first step in implementing the NSDI.

(2) Don't Duck Metadata: Metadata Trainer Assistance funds trainers to train organizations in metadata implementation.

You can read about previous CAP programs at http://www.fgdc.gov/funding/funding.html

Please contact Dave Painter, FGDC CAP Coordinator (dpainter@usgs.gov, 703-648-5513) for questions about the program.
