SAN DIEGO, June 20, 2001--Nexian Inc., an innovative leader in mobile communications, will
introduce a new global positioning system (GPS) product designed to bring satellite-driven technology to the general public.
The HandyGPS Pro, featuring Rand McNally's top-selling StreetFinder Deluxe travel navigation software, will be presented
at a special event during PC Expo (New York) featuring Mercury Astronaut Scott Carpenter.
Nexian has received global recognition for its development of a compact GPS module for the Handspring Visor personal
digital assistant that converts the device into a GPS receiver.
Sitting on Handspring Visor's Springboard port, this micro-GPS module intelligently pinpoints locations on a detailed digital
map, shows the position of nearby shops and attractions and aids in finding a destination. HandyGPS can also be used to search
for locations by street name and record travels into memory to replay later.
The Nexian/Rand McNally combination enables users to download maps, directions, points of interest and business services,
as well as providing quick map searching.
Sang Ho Son, chairman and CEO of Nexian, stated: "We are particularly pleased to be associated with HandSpring and
Rand McNally, clearly the leaders in their respective fields, and to bring to the general public the same exciting technology that
has so impacted the marine, aviation and automobile industries. GPS technology seems to be following the same growth pattern
as the Internet, which also started as a military-funded project and is now inspiring diverse civilian uses."
Retired Naval Commander Scott Carpenter is a pioneer of modern exploration with the unique distinction of being the only
human ever to penetrate both inner and outer space, thereby acquiring the dual title, Astronaut/Aquanaut.
He was one of the original seven Mercury Astronauts in the '60s and piloted his Aurora 7 spacecraft for three revolutions of
the Earth. He also spent 30 days living and working on the ocean floor as team leader of the U.S. Navy's Sealab II Program.
"It is so very appropriate for us to have Astronaut Scott Carpenter as our featured guest. It was during the '60s when
America's first satellite was put in place and the world became enamored with space. Now GPS technology connects all of us
with that remarkable environment," Sang Ho Son concluded.
The Nexian HandyGPS Pro presentation is scheduled for a media and industry-leader breakfast at the Plaza Hotel in New
York on Thursday, June 28, 2001, prior to the final day of exhibits at PC Expo.
Nexian Inc. (http://www.nexian.com) is an international wireless solutions company that aims to provide specialized solutions
for the mobile Internet environment and also innovates cutting-edge GPS-ready communications devices for the rapidly
networking world. Its HandyGPS products are at the forefront of efforts to meet the increasing demand for personalized
navigation services.
