Actify, Inc. Launches SpinFire Publisher and Viewer 2.0 New SpinFire Release Moves CAD Designs to the Web with Exceptional Ease

Chicago, IL - March 6, 2001- Actify, Inc. announced today the launch of SpinFire Publisher and Viewer 2.0, its flagship solution for publishing mechanical designs in web-based applications. The company will feature its new SpinFire product at the National Design Engineering Show (NDES), McCormick Place, Chicago, IL on March 5-8, 2001. SpinFire Publisher 2.0 and SpinFire Viewer 2.0 work in tandem to accelerate the process of delivering design content to the web. SpinFire brings 3D and 2D designs into one integrated presentation tool with a unique set of measurement and collaboration features. Setting new ease-of-use standards in the publishing and viewing industry, SpinFire's highly intuitive interface makes it simple to use and implement by both CAD users and nonCAD users outside of engineering, such as marketing, sales, support and service personnel. These departments do not have to learn or install a CAD system in order to view and publish product designs. The free SpinFire Viewer is downloadable from the Actify web site at www.Actify.com.

SpinFire Publisher is a very powerful system in addition to its ease-of-use. Design content comes from a variety of sources including design engineers, manufacturing partners, and suppliers. SpinFire delivers multiple business benefits by publishing these designs to the web for internal communication, external collaboration, catalogs, marketing applications, and sales collateral. End users can measure, analyze, and annotate designs to see critical design details and make faster, better decisions. Actify’s industry-leading import technologies support all major design formats including Pro/E, Catia, Unigraphics (Parasolid), I-DEAS, Autodesk (DWG, DXF, and Inventor), SolidWorks, Solid Edge, Parasolid, IGES, STEP, 3D Studio, G-Code, VRML, STL, and VDA.

"Moving beyond Art-to-Part, SpinFire makes ‘Art-to-Web’ immediately possible for any type of business or collaboration. Existing designs can be added to any web-based application as easily as publishing a photograph, without the requiring a server or CAD system,” said Mark Gisi, president and CEO of Actify. “SpinFire was developed with an emphasis on simplicity, usability, and performance, then enhanced with the most advanced features in the viewing and publishing marketplace."

ManufacturingQuote Inc. chose SpinFire 2.0 as their standard "publish and view" technology for MfgQuote.com?, the leading Web service for buying and selling custom manufacturing services. Mitch Free, president and CEO of ManufacturingQuote Inc., explained "To enable eProcurement processes, MfgQuote.com required the most robust and intuitive viewer available. We believe SpinFire will make 3D content widely accessible and take its place as an industry standard, just like HTML or Microsoft Word."

David Wayne, president of EMT Software, remarked, “Before evaluating SpinFire, we never expected it could be this easy to add visualization to our online parts library, PartsWorks.com. Actify has provided us with a web-based solution that fits into our world rather than forcing us to adapt to theirs. SpinFire's rich feature set allows our customers to get the best preview of the millions of 3D parts we offer.”

New SpinFire Features Enable Users to Measure, Analyze, Cross-section and Annotate Designs on the Web

SpinFire Publisher introduces several major innovations enabling direct publication of all major CAD formats. SpinFire compresses large designs into a web-optimized file format optimized for high performance web-based applications. You can also designate multiple pre-defined views to highlight design features, with control over viewing angle, cross-section, color, transparency, and background. Web developers can customize design presentations through parameters in their HTML or through Javascript. SpinFire also offers a number of parameters for maximizing presentation impact. The program can also generate 2D design previews for direct insertion into web pages.

The lightweight SpinFire Viewer browser plug-in makes viewing fast and easy with its own web- optimized view-only format, delivering complete, accurate, and secure design information. Once a design is displayed in the Viewer, users can rotate, pan, and zoom to quickly locate and visualize design features. You can also spin a 3D model to gain an intuitive feel for a design, as if you were holding the part in your hand. Cross-section capabilities allow the user to create and visualize critical design details normally hidden from view. Grid and rulers features make it simple to visually assess distances. The user can also take measurements on the 3D model, such as distances, radii, and hole centers, to gauge critical design specifications. Direct annotation of designs is also now available to facilitate collaboration and communication.
