MapInfo and Plurimus Partner to Deliver a CRM Solution that uses Location Intelligence to Analyze Online Behavior

TROY, N.Y. and DURHAM, N.C., March 26, 2001--MapInfo Corporation (Nasdaq: MAPS) and Plurimus Corporation (formerly Foveon), today announced a strategic partnership to deliver a CRM solution that enables an organization to profile the online behavior of Web users in any geographic region. Designed for use with TargetPro(TM), MapInfo's market analysis tool, Plurimus Internet Summary Data enables a company, for the first time, to tie online behavior to a user's geographic location and integrate this information with MapInfo's demographic and segmentation data. As a part of their collaboration, MapInfo has made an equity investment in Plurimus, which today made its national debut at PC Forum 2001.

"This partnership with Plurimus is part of MapInfo's global strategy to deliver comprehensive CRM solutions to our customers and to the market," said Michael Hickey, MapInfo's executive vice president, sales and marketing. "By joining forces with a company that offers unique Internet usage data, we are now able to provide our 'click and mortar' customers with the first set of Internet data that is tied to real-world location intelligence. Previously, this lack of connection between actual `click and mortar' behaviors has been an obstacle for our customers in creating effective marketing initiatives."

By assimilating live data from a pool of 3.5 million Internet users, Plurimus has built the industry's most comprehensive source of data on Internet usage. This data is seamlessly plugged into TargetPro for fast and accurate analysis. MapInfo customers, who traditionally have relied on TargetPro for demographic analysis of their "brick and mortar" customers, can now use the same state-of-the-art analysis tool for their Web and e-commerce initiatives, and create comprehensive e-marketing programs. In addition, organizations can now integrate their "brick and mortar" and online operations through a concrete understanding of the relationship between their real-world locations and their customers' online behavior. Only through understanding both can organizations realize the potential return on investment of a fully functional "click and-mortar" operation.

Future partnership plans include more powerful data-integration products for e-business clients. Through the use of these still-in-development products, MapInfo's customers will augment their customer acquisition and retention efforts.

"We are excited about our new relationship with MapInfo to provide comprehensive marketing intelligence solutions for business clients," said Donna Peek, Plurimus vice president, business development. "Our unique online behavioral data coupled with MapInfo's location-based business intelligence promises to yield business and marketing intelligence tools that are unlike anything in the market today."
