Mark Safran Named President and CEO of HJW GeoSpatial, Inc.

Oakland, CA, April 30, 2001 - HJW GeoSpatial (HJW), Inc., a premier provider of aerial photography, digital mapping and remote sensing data has named Mark S. Safran as President and Chief Executive Officer. Most recently the firm’s Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Safran succeeds Axel Hoffman who stepped down from the position earlier this month.

Mark Safran

HJW, a founding leader in the geospatial industry, has been serving municipal, government- and private-sector clients since 1949. Since joining the firm more than 15 years ago, Mr. Safran has assumed increasingly significant roles within the company and has been instrumental in HJW’s technological and operational growth. Among his many contributions, he instituted the standardization of project management and technical operating procedures, built an effective marketing and business development model and was a leading force in the company’s transition from analog to digital data acquisition and processing.

“The geospatial industry is expanding at a break-neck speed in terms of technology and applications,” said Safran. “I view my job as making sure that HJW continues to embrace new technologies and techniques, while never losing sight of our solid reputation and commitment to provide accurate data and careful attention to our clients,” he added.

Prior to joining HJW, Mr. Safran held key positions with the California Coastal Commission, PG&E, Chevron and the US Forest Service Geometric Division. He is Past President of the Urban Regional Information Systems Association Northern California Chapter, Past Technical Program Chair of the California GIS Conference, and has spoken at numerous conferences and seminars.

HJW is one of the few West Coast firms that offer complete mapping and remote sensing services; its custom professional services include aerial photography, photogrammetry, digital orthophotography, topographic and planimetric mapping, remote sensing and GIS. HJW also provides forestry services and operates Pacific Aerial Surveys, its photo library that makes more than 500,000 historic and current images available to the public. The firm has four offices in California - Oakland, Irvine, Walnut Creek, Santa Rosa and an office in Phoenix, Arizona.
