ESRI SELECTS LIZARDTECH'S MrSID FOR NATIVE IMAGERY ENCODING INSIDE ArcGIS
8.1
SEATTLE, May 14, 2001- Further building on a long-term and successful
business relationship, ESRI and LizardTech today announced the native
support of MrSID encoding capabilities into ESRI's recently-released
flagship ArcGIS 8.1 software. The results of this strategic cooperative
effort now means that ESRI ArcGIS users can not only natively view MrSID
images, but also quickly produce high-quality, MrSID images directly inside
the ArcGIS environment, without requiring a separate software package.
The ability to create MrSID images is included within all of the ArcGIS 8.1
desktop products, including ArcView, ArcEditor and ArcInfo. ESRI's ArcGIS
software family is the complete system for the creation, management,
integration and analysis of geographic data for every organization. MrSID,
the image format standard for geospatial professionals, is a software
product family and file format that includes the ability to reduce
high-resolution images to a fraction of their original file size while
maintaining original image quality.
"ESRI's next-generation ArcGIS family encompasses a complete GIS solution
built on industry standards," said John Grizz Deal, president and CEO of
LizardTech. "We are happy to be strengthening our product offerings to the
ESRI community by allowing ESRI customers to have the ability to not only
natively view imagery in MrSID format, but also encode imagery into our
MrSID format from their ESRI software."
"We are excited to expand our existing relationship with LizardTech and to
be the first to include native MrSID encoding capabilities through our
ArcGIS platform," said Jack Dangermond, president, ESRI. "This integration
continues to allow ESRI to provide MrSID imaging technology to our customers
in an accessible and scalable format."
This new integration provides two primary encoding levels for ArcGIS users
to quickly access the power of MrSID. For customers wanting to try MrSID
for the first time or for smaller geospatial image sets, such as viewing a
MrSID image on an ArcPad PDA, ArcGIS desktop products include MrSID software
that will encode imagery up to 50MB. For file sizes up to 500MB, the MrSID
Geo encoder extension for ArcGIS can be accessed and quickly activated
inside the ArcGIS environment for a small upgrade charge by contacting ESRI
at 800-447-9778 (1-800-GIS-XPRT), or an ESRI reseller or international
distributor. For unlimited image file size encoding, LizardTech's MrSID Geo
(Workstation) can also be conveniently purchased through ESRI at
800-447-9778, an ESRI reseller or by contacting LizardTech toll free at
877-580-5588.
