Landmark Graphics Releases DataStar - A Unique Collection of Land, Culture, and Well Data for Quick Oil and Gas Reconnaissance Projects

DALLAS, May 15, 2001 -- Landmark Graphics Corporation, a wholly owned business unit of Halliburton Company (NYSE: HAL), today announced the release of its DataStar database.

The new database is accessed via Landmark's GeoGraphix Windows-based geologic mapping software for reconnaissance and mapping projects. DataStar provides essential information for business evaluations of potential oil and gas ventures and divestitures.

A comprehensive collection of land grid, culture and well data for the entire United States is contained in the database. These data, which reside locally on the user's Landmark GeoGraphix desktop, can be accessed and provide a streamlined mapping workflow whereby maps can be generated quickly, eliminating the need to locate a data source, load and format the data, and then mapping it. DataStar allows geoscientists to perform regional reconnaissance and determine specific areas of interest. This feature enables the company to purchase only those wells that are potential producers rather than entire counties, which results in significant cost savings. In addition, the user may query the database and use the information as many times as necessary. It is not sold on a per usage basis.

"The DataStar database is another step in Landmark's commitment to the desktop customer. No other product on the market can put over $1/2 million dollars worth of useful data at your fingertips for such a small investment," added Landmark President and CEO, John Gibson.

DataStar was developed in conjunction with the WhiteStar Corporation, a worldwide supplier of GIS data for the petroleum, civil, forestry and engineering industries. The data resolution of DataStar for continental land grid and culture data is 1:100,000 scale with over 3 million well spots and a world base map that is 1:1,000,000 scale.

DataStar is a new addition to Landmark's GeoGraphix product line, which delivers leading integrated geophysical, geological and petrophysical software solutions for the Microsoft Windows NT(R) desktop. The GeoGraphix Web site can be accessed at www.geographix.com.

Landmark is a leading supplier of integrated E&P technical and economic software solutions, cost-effective Web-based data and application hosting, as well as consulting solutions and services to support decision making in finding, drilling and producing oil and gas. Knowledge-based E&P companies are partnering with Landmark to achieve higher levels of technical-to-business (T2B(TM)) process integration in order to better understand risk management and improve their returns on investment.
