UK Royal Air Force Chooses Geomatica by PCI Geomatics

Richmond Hill, Ontario - October 26, 2001: The Aeronautical Information Documents Units (AIDU) of the UK Royal Air Force, publishers of aeronautical charts and other essential documents, has made the move to using PCI Geomatics Geomatica technology. Geomatica is the single fully functional geospatial solution from PCI Geomatics that offers the ability to perform remote sensing, GIS, cartographic, and photogrammetric operations from a single integrated software platform.

The AIDU, whose motto is "Quo Certior Eo Tutior" (The More Fully Informed, The Safer), will use Geomatica for their data translation and various other production tasks. The unit is responsible for the drawing, printing, and distribution of aeronautical information, which is primarily for use by British military personnel directly concerned with the operation and safety of aircraft. The information generated by the AIDU is published and shared in the form of documents, charts, or digital data known collectively as Flight Information Publications (FLIPs). These fall into one of three categories: Planning, En-Route, and Terminal. Although Flight Information Publications (FLIPs) are produced primarily for the Armed Forces, most are available on a repayment basis to civilian operators.

Geomatica actively unites the many separate technologies used for remote sensing image processing, GIS, and digital cartography into a single free flowing modular environment with advanced viewing capabilities. PCI Geomatics is currently preparing to release Version 8.2 of Geomatica, the newest version of their internationally successful geomatics solution. This release is scheduled to be shipping to customers before January 2002.

PCI Geomatics (www.pcigeomatics.com) is a world leading developer of geomatics software and solutions based on its remote sensing, digital photogrammetry, spatial analysis, and cartographic editing programs. PCI Geomatics has over 11,000 licenses installed in over 100 countries, a result of its commitment to supply leading edge software, customer support, and service worldwide. PCI Geomatics has been in the geospatial software business since 1982 and each software generation has been created with their customer's present and future needs in mind.

PCI Geomatics' latest product, Geomatica, is a powerful blending of four major product lines into one fully functional solution. PCI Geomatics has blended EASI/PACE, SPANS, PAMAP, ACE, and OrthoEngine to develop a completely new functionality framework for Geomatica, producing a single, tightly integrated product. Geomatica introduces many new developments while also delivering improvements to traditional PCI Geomatics software advantages such as strengthened raster and vector processing capabilities required to meet the growing demands of the Remote Sensing, GIS, Cartographic, and Photogrammetry worlds. GEOMATICA, EASI/PACE, SPANS, PAMAP, ACE, OrthoEngine, and GeoGateway are registered trademarks of PCI Geomatics (www.pcigeomatics.com).
