For the month of January National Geographic brings the Ground Zero experience home through a 360º birds-eye view. With secured permission from the Federal Emergency Management Authority (FEMA) photographer Andrea Booher mounted a Nikon Coolpix 950 digital camera atop a crane situated amid the ruins of the World Trade Center. For 24 hours in late November, the camera, on the arm of a cherry picker with a 100-foot reach, was equipped with a fish-eye lens enabling it to take 180º pictures of the site. Ipix software then turned these series of pictures into a "virtual reality bubble", allowing its viewers to take a 360º look around the rubble, the buildings surrounding the site and its neighboring areas.
