Hitachi Software Global Technology Announces Service to Track Building Changes HouseDiff Service Takes New Approach to Maintaining Accurate Building Footprints

Westminster, CO - April 4, 2002 - Drawing on its experience in automatic data conversion for GIS, Hitachi Software Global Technology (HSGT) has developed a powerful automated approach to identifying changes to buildings and other structures. HouseDiff allows agencies to conduct change analysis more frequently and keep building data layers more complete and up-to-date at all times.

Using a hybrid raster-to-vector approach, HouseDiff has a 95% accuracy rate in pinpointing structures that have been modified, added, or demolished since the last discovery period.

    How it Works

HouseDiff automatically compares existing landbase data (vector building footprints and parcel data) to new vector data extracted from updated imagery. The HouseDiff change detection engine uses specialized algorithms to account for obstructions and shadowing that occurs in imagery. The resulting data set is then automatically compared for structural changes as small as a few meters.

Changes to building structure, area, or position are flagged for verification by the analysts. Results are returned in an intelligent GIS layer that can be integrated with existing GIS and CAMA systems.

    Who Can Use HouseDiff

The ability to monitor and manage constant changes to buildings has become a critical necessity since Sept. 11. For local governments, emergency personnel, and critical infrastructures, HouseDiff is an effective tool for conducting regular change monitoring and data updates. Since it is offered as an outsourced service, HouseDiff does not require additional training or costly software investment.
