New DeLorme Street Atlas USA 2003 Is The Most Detailed Travel Planning Software Available

YARMOUTH, Maine, August 14, 2002 -- DeLorme today announced the next generation of its award-winning Street Atlas USA mapping software. Available now, Street Atlas USA 2003 has been extensively updated using a variety of new techniques and data sources, including updated street data from the most recent U.S. Census data augmented with additional DeLorme datasets. DeLorme also updated highway interchanges by matching them to recent aerial imagery, which greatly improves routing accuracy.

Additional features of Street Atlas USA 2003 include:
    • 6.2 million streets across the U.S.
    • More than 4.2 million updated places of interest most with phone numbers including hotels, fuel stops, banks, colleges, attractions, and restaurants
    • New Truck/RV service stop listings with detailed information about fuel, food, features, and other services
    • Special Radar feature locates nearby services with information and directions included
    • Split-screen GPS tracking displaying side-by-side street-level and wide-area overview maps at the same time
    • Enhanced GPS voice commands for receiving spoken responses from multi-media laptops
    • Ability to export maps to Pocket PC or Palm OSÒ handhelds using XMapÒ Handheld Street Atlas USA Ò software (available separately)
    • Import option for placement of up to 50 address book listings
    • GPS mobile-map colors for improved screen readability in-vehicle
    • Ability to instantly add new routable streets as they’re developed across the U.S.

“Street Atlas USA 2003 is by far the most up-to-date, accurate, and detailed travel planning software on the market today, “ said Dave Eshelman, DeLorme Senior Vice President. “DeLorme’s staff of cartographers has incorporated recent U.S. Census street data and other source materials in assembling this new release.”

The product features cutting-edge Radar search technology that lets users scan the immediate vicinity for selected travel services such as gas, hotel, food, and ATMs. People traveling with GPS receivers, such as DeLorme’s Earthmate Ò or other popular brands, will find this feature especially helpful as it recalculates and displays directions to the nearest service while tracking.

A new Truck/RV service stop database includes listings across the U.S. and provides such detailed information as location, phone, fuel brand, food, and many other services.

With the surge of new housing developments across the nation, new streets are being added every day. Street Atlas USA 2003 is still the only street mapping software that lets users add and name their own local roads to the database. If a local street is missing, it can be added, named, used for routing, and instantly becomes part of the searchable roads included in the program.

Street Atlas USA 2003 comes with improved routing options to create automatic address-to-address routes anywhere in the U.S., using shortest distance or quickest time settings. A key feature continues to be the ability to customize routes by selecting numerous preferences such as highways, secondary roads, and places of interest along the way. With the Plan Trip function, travelers can plan scheduled stops, such as after five hours or at the end of the day. A fuel consumption tool prompts users to schedule stops for refueling based on the size of their gas tank and their average miles per gallon. The product also lets travelers plan and save multiple routes, perfect for long trips. Travel Package printing includes a combination of maps and directions and lets users select only the sections of the Travel Plan they want to print and take with them. Turn Details offer zoomed-in map views showing each turn along the route; directions show left and right, as well as north, south, east, and west direction indicators.

Travelers never need an Internet connection with Street Atlas USA 2003¾just take the CD-ROM or copy the data to the hard drive on a laptop to access the maps anytime, anywhere. Enhanced voice command technologies lets GPS users speak to their laptop computers when they travel and have the software respond to 34 voice commands. Handy phrases include “What’s the next turn?” “Show directions,” and “Where am I?” In addition, by adding XMap Handheld Street Atlas USA software (available separately), travelers can take maps and directions with them on Pocket PC or Palm OS handhelds.

    Pricing and Availability

Street Atlas USA 2003 is available at most software retail stores or direct from DeLorme for a suggested price of $49.95. Street Atlas USA 2003 runs on Microsoft® Windows® 98/2000/Me/XP, Windows NT® 4.0. Use with a Pocket PC or Palm OS handheld requires XMap Handheld Street Atlas USA, available for an additional $39.95. Customers can purchase directly from DeLorme on its Web site at www.delorme.com or from one of its Sales Representatives at 800-561-5095.
