New Showcase for Geographic Data: GeoDATA 2003

Cambridge, November 2003. Following the recent announcement of GeoDATA 2003, a series of seminars showcasing geographic data and it’s application in business by The GeoInformation Group the UKs leading supplier of geographic information, the organisers are pleased to announce further details.

The events will run in three cities; London on the 4th February 2003, Birmingham on the 5th February 2003 and Edinburgh on the 6th February 2003. Showcasing many of the UKs suppliers of geographic information from both commercial and government sectors GeoDATA 2003 will introduce the delegate to the types and characteristics of geographic information and examples of its real world application for benefit.

A number of major UK companies have already signed up to the event, including Trimble Navigation Limited, Lovell Johns, Landmark Information Group, PointX, and The United Kingdom Hydrographic Office. Paul Manson EMEA GIS Sales & Marketing Manager for Trimble said "Both Location-Based Services (LBS) and Mobile GIS applications rely critically on the availability and quality of Geographic data sets, for decision-making and for effective use of an organization's information resources in the field." These companies will offer valuable contributions to the events covering element of geographic information under the themes environment, people, maps and images.

This is the first time that geographic data and its application for business has been the focus of a dedicated series of seminars. Through a series of city based events it is hoped that GeoDATA 2003 will improve awareness and education in the value of geographic in supporting UK business.

“These seminars have a very simple message ‘Geographic is every where – and you can use it!’” said Fiona Cocks the Professional Training Manager of The GeoInformation Group, the company behind GeoDATA 2003. The realisation of the value of geographic information within the GIS community is becomingly increasingly apparent; it was only recently noted by Mrs Preetha Pulusani, President of Intergraph Mapping & GIS Division that “Data is undervalued”.

The seminars are open to all existing users of geographic information and it is hoped will also attract many potential users of this valuable information resource. With conservative estimates stating that over 80% of all business information contains an element of geography these seminars are a must for all companies covering the benefits of geographic information at both the operational and strategic planning stages.

Interest from both the suppliers of geographic information and also users is already high and The GeoInformation Group, the organisers of GeoDATA 2003 are encouraging potential participants and attendees to register their interest quickly to avoid disappointment. Further details will be available shortly from www.crworld.co.uk but to register your interest in advance email marketing@crworld.co.uk or call 01223 425325.
