HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Feb. 1, 2002 - Intergraph Mapping and GIS Solutions and the Intergraph GeoSpatial Users Community (IGUC) announced today the first annual international Awards for Cartographic Excellence program. Professional cartography and map production customers as well as students who use Intergraph mapping and GIS software are invited to participate. The awards program recognizes professional excellence in design, technique, aesthetics, innovation, communication, and presentation.

Participants can submit entries by the May 1, 2002, deadline in the following categories:

    - Category I, Static Cartographic Maps - Topographic, reference, planimetric, composite, and specialized theme submissions. For example, traditional maps such as atlas maps, city plans, transportation maps, and aeronautical and nautical charts.

    - Category II, Static GIS Maps - Thematic maps produced for GIS applications for analytical or interpretive presentations. Image-based maps, for example, orthophoto maps, are also included in this category.

    - Category III, Dynamic Interactive Presentations - Presentations produced using GeoMedia(R) WebMap, GeoMedia WebEnterprise, or IntelliWhere(TM) products.

There is no entry fee to participate. All entries will be displayed at GeoSpatial World 2002, the IGUC International Training and Management Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, June 10-12. Judging will be conducted on site by an internationally recognized panel. A first-place cash award of $1,000 (U.S.) and a first runner-up cash award of $500 (U.S.) will be presented in each category.
